MANAGEMENT TEAM

• Managing Director / CEO: Frikkie du Plessis has been employed in the Construction Industry for

more than 26 Years. His previous employment was with Murray & Roberts Civils where he fulfilled

the responsibility of Contracts Director. He had 15 years of service with Murray & Roberts Civils

(Pty) Ltd and was involved in major construction projects inside and outside the borders of South

Africa. His most recent major projects involved the N2 Hibberdene, the N3 Toll Concession, the N4

Platinum Toll Road, Hartenbos Landgoed, The Hills Golf Estate and the GFIP D2 project for SANRAL

through Pretoria on the National Route N1 where he fulfilled the responsibility as Project Manager.

Frikkie du Plessis is also registered as a Professional Construction Project Manager (Reg. no.

D/1290/2006).

• Director: Mark d’Oliveira has been employed in the

Construction Industry for more than 26 years. His

previous employment was with Murray & Roberts

Civils (Pty) Ltd. where he fulfilled the responsibility

of Contracts Manager. His most recent major

projects involved the N3 Toll Concession, Hartenbos

Landgoed, The Hills Golf Estate and the GFIP D2

project for SANRAL through Pretoria on the National

Contracts Manager. Mark d’Oliveira is also

• Director: Lindy Khatshi is currently responsible for the HR Management. She joined Chavani (PTY)

Ltd in 2011 and was appointed as a Director in 2014 after a sale of shares agreement was concluded.

• Non-Executive Director: Thandiwe Godongwana

• Shareholder: Enoch Godongwana currently serves as an independent consultant. From 1998 –

2004 he served as the MEC for Finance in the Eastern Cape. From 2009 – 2010 he served as Deputy

Minister of Public Enterprise. From 2010 - 2012 he served as Deputy Minister of Economic

Development and during the 1990's he was the General Secretary of the National Union of Metal

Workers in South Africa. Enoch has a Master of Science degree in Financial Economics which he

obtained from the University of London and his core competence includes the following:

− Negotiating new labour legislation in a democratic South Africa in the form of the Labour

Relations Act,

− Assisting in establishing the social dialogue institution in South Africa (NEDLAC),

− Transforming the public finance of the Eastern Cape,

− Forming part of the team that instituted fiscal reforms in a democratic South Africa, including

the Public Finance Management Act,

total compliance, Dwayne Randall fulfil the responsibility of full time Occupational Health and Safety

Officer for the company.

Dwayne has been operating in the Occupational Health and Safety field since 2010 and was responsible

Sikelele Civils (Pty) Ltd (Reg. No. 2004 / 004467 / 07) is a black woman-owned enterprise that forms

part of the Chavani (Pty) Ltd targeted support programme for the past few years.

HISTORY Chavani (Pty) Ltd was established in 2003 after Chavani Construction cc and Mr. Frikkie du Plessis

decided to combine their strengths in order to form a new construction company, Chavani (Pty) Ltd.

With more than 26 years of experience in the construction industry and with an experienced

management team in place, Chavani is now ready to meet the modern requirements of the South African

Construction Industry.

Chavani (Pty) Ltd is registered with the South African Federation of Civil Engineering Contractors

(SAFCEC), Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and the National Home Builders

Registration Council (NHBRC)


Chavani (Pty) Ltd started its operations in Harrismith in 2003, doing Low Cost Housing. This operation

was shortly afterwards extended to Road Rehabilitation work in Hoedspruit and Road Works for the N3

Toll Concessioner.

In 2004 Chavani did the first of two Turnkey Projects for the Johannesburg Roads Agency. These projects

involved Design and Construct work for the upgrading of gravel roads to asphalt roads in Pimville and

Naledi, Soweto. Operations also continued in the Free State Province with many Low Cost Housing

projects been completed successfully.

In 2005 Chavani (Pty) Ltd was appointed to do the Hartenbos Landgoed Development in Hartenbos.

This project involved the construction of 184 No. luxury double storey homes.

The Infrastructure and Golf Course Development at The Hills in Pretoria followed this in 2006. This

project involved the construction of roads and bridges, water and sewer reticulation, the sewer works

and the construction of the Golf Course and dam under the supervision of Greg Norman Golf Course

Design.

In 2008 Chavani (Pty) Ltd was appointed as a Joint Venture partner with Basil Read for the GFIP upgrade

through Pretoria and Centurion. These projects involved the major upgrade of roads and bridges on the

National Route N1. Chavani (Pty) Ltd was responsible for the Project Management of the work through

Pretoria. The value of this project was R1,8bn.

Since the completion of this major milestone project Chavani (Pty) Ltd has been responsible for road

rehabilitation and reseal projects in Hazyview on the R40 and at eMalahleni on the N12 for SANRAL.

Chavani (Pty) Ltd has also successfully completed the Mafefe and Mathlatjane Asbestos Mine

Rehabilitation projects for the DMR Mintek in 2013 and 2014.

In recent years Chavani (Pty) Ltd has completed the Reconfiguration and Upgrade of Aircraft Stands D1

to D13 at Oliver Tambo International Airport and was involved in the Olifants River Water Resources

Development Project in Steelpoort. This R1,2bn project was awarded to Basil Read and Chavani (Pty)

Ltd provided resources to the project. Chavani also completed the building of two luxury, double storey

homes on stand 21 in The Hills Eco Estate, East of Pretoria.

Other recent works comprise the Repair and Reseal of National Road R53 between Potchefstroom and

Parys and the Repair and Reseal of National Road R503 between Hartbeesfontein and Coligny for

SANRAL, as well as the Rehabilitation of Road P88 (R28) between Westonaria and Evaton for the

Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport.

Chavani (Pty) Ltd is registered with the South African Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB)

as a Level 8 Civil Engineering (8CE), Level 7 Mechanical Engineering (7ME) and Level 6 General Building

(6GB) Contractor. Chavani (Pty) Ltd has also recently aquired its ISO 9001:2015 certification status from
