who we are Halo Media was started by Hayes and Louise Cunningham - hence HaLo. We are a creative design studio based in Westville, Durban.

We are a small team, and we aim to keep it that way. Our business model is that of a specialist branding service, incorporating in-house and outsourced skills. Our experience in the industry, both nationally and internationally, gives us the ability to manage a brand, yet not attempt to be jack of-all-trades.

Our in-house skills focus on graphic design (through the line); specialist presentations and video-editing. We collaborate closely with a network of top designers; strategists; researchers; copywriters; programmers; 3-D artists; animators; illustrators, photographers, film makers, producers, directors; event coordinators etc., each a specialist in their own field.

This enables us to help you deliver the “halo effect” to your market proficiently, on time and on budget. The halo effect is all about creating a brand experience. An experience that keeps you coming back for more. (It’s true! Google it!)

Our ethos is one of enjoyment and delivery our best - we want to work hard and enjoy what we do and who we work with. In return our clients receive the same enjoyment both in service levels and quality of design.

Commitment. As a small business we have a larger vested interest in the smooth running of your operation and the continued happiness of our clients. You deal with the business owners on a day-to-day level so are assured of our commitment.

Overheads. We are a SOHO company. This means that our overheads are lower. By keeping our full-time staff to a minimum, you aren’t paying for staff who aren’t working on your project. You pay for the work done, not the frills.

Quality. It also means that we don’t have a “jack-of-all-trades” mentality. Instead of trying to fit a profile, we find the right skills to fit any given project. This ensures a higher quality output than forcing that round peg into a square hole.

Attitude. Enjoying our day is important to us. We’ve chosen to be small and uncomplicated. We choose the clients we work with. When you choose work with us means you also appreciate simplicity, no “politics”, good ethics and phenomenal creativity (with a healthy dose of modesty thrown in there!).

Hayes has been in the creative industry since he qualified as a Graphic Designer in 1996 at DUT. His experience, particularly at The Brand Development Business (UK) saw him working on brands such as Sainsbury’s, Tesco’s, Marks & Spencer’s etc. His strength is brand development and conceptual growth. His passion is film and video and has worked on several TV commercials for Ola Milky Lane. Hayes oversees the entire process and does in-house filming and editing. He has been in the advertising industry for over 16 years.

Louise enjoys working with the brand as a whole and ensuring cohesion from all elements from business cards through to online campaigns. She worked in a UK agency for 3.5 years, mainly in the gaming industry (PlayStation, Xbox etc) which gave her a good understanding of working on a global platform (developers in Japan and PlayStation teams based in Scotland and Germany). Her pet passions are presentations and emerging technology/trends (including various social media qualifications). Her presentations are becoming a source of international interest and have been designed for worldwide use with companies such as Coca Cola, Unilever, Nestlé, France Telecom, Lufthansa and Power Shoes.

In 2011 Halo were commissioned to rebrand Richards Bay Minerals (RBM) under the new management of Rio Tinto. We created the new brand in close communication with the Rio Tinto Brand Management Team in London and rolled out the look and feel to all branded collateral and corporate communications.

Halo have worked with Unilever’s HR Department on their annual Graduate Campaign since 2008. Each year we develop a new theme which is carried out all collateral for the year. In 2013 we were one of the first agencies globally to pilot the new Unilever brand and it’s African rollout.

Three Cities had a tall order… a budget sensitive corporate DVD encompassing 26 locations; 3 countries; 3 provinces - 22 days filming in 26 days!

This was launched at the Tourism Indaba. We worked alongside the Three Cities and Hotel School teams to produce a Flash Mob which featured a dance in front of their stand - it was a social media hit!

We’ve enjoyed working on various types of videos, from travelling around the country to shoot for one of South Africa’s largest logistics companies, through to aerial filming of a music video in Verneukpan, our film department can handle all requests. We’ve started a sister company, PixAir, which is a highly specialised aerial drone allowing us enormous creativity and reach.

• Karlien Van Jaarsveld’s music video for “Hande” - Karlien feels it was the best video she’s ever had!• 2.5 year contract to film country wide for Aqua Transports Logistics• Nelson Mandela Scholarship Fund video - we were invited for lunch with Madiba on this project, but had to
