J.Barnsley Cranes Ltd is recognised as one
of the UK’s leading crane manufacturers.
We specialise in explosion-proof cranes,
and explosion-proof crane equipment
for the petrochemical and pharmaceutical
industries. Some 80 per cent of J.Barnsley
orders are for the design and manufacture
of EX overhead traveling cranes and EX
hoists for the oil and gas industry. The
remaining 20 per cent of its business is
for the design and manufacture of cranes
for general industrial use including water
treatment plants and ship’s cranes for the
offshore / marine industry.

J.Barnsley cranes are designed at our on-site crane
design offices. We have a specialist crane Design
& Engineering department utilising the latest CAD
equipment. Our qualified and professional engineers
have vast experience of crane design and innovation
in order to get the right crane solution to meet our
customers needs.
Our quality management system is approved by
Lloyds Register in accordance with ISO 9001:2000.
This is evidenced by our ISO 9001 certificate
available to view in our resources section. The
quality managment system is applicable to: Design
and Manufacture of Cranes and Material Handling
Equipment. Management of associated site activites.
Our crane documentation department has great
experience in the preparation of crane documents,
in particular special requirements for crane
documents to meet GOST requirements for Russia
and Kazakhstan, CSA requirements for Canada as
well as ENACT/DPP requirements for cranes being

All J.Barnsley cranes are manufactured at our workshops located in the West
Midlands region of the U.K. We have a specialist crane manufacturing area of
32,000 ft2 which employs the latest crane manufacturing techniques.
We have a dedicated, skilled and experienced workforce who ensure our
explosion proof cranes and materials handling equipment are manufactured
to the highest standards. J.Barnsley also utilise CAM technologies.
MANUFACTURE
J. Barnsley Cranes install cranes throughout the
world. Our qualified and professional engineers
have vast experience of crane installation
in order to get the right solution to meet our
customers needs.
J. Barnsley also carry out surveys on behalf
of clients all over the world both onshore and
offshore. By carrying out these surveys the
client can be assured that the proposed crane/
hoist solution will be fit for purpose and will
ensure that the subsequent installation will go as
smoothly as possible.

The history of J.Barnsley Cranes Ltd can be traced back to 1809 when it was established as a traditional Black
Country engineering company. During these early years its foundry, listed variously as being based in Cradley
Heath and Netherton in England, UK, produced a wide range of products including the Jews or Jaws harp.
