Social Responsibility

• We are one of the largest corporate givers in Wisconsin, donating more than $274 million to nonprofits nationwide since our foundation’s inception in 1992.

• Our philanthropic program to fight childhood cancer is helping accelerate the search for a cure to childhood cancer and providing support to kids and families facing the daily struggles of cancer – the leading cause of death by disease in children and adolescents in the United States.4 To date, we’ve funded more than 47,000 hours of research and donated $6.6 million.

• More than 1,850 Northwestern Mutual employees donated nearly 32,500 hours in 2014 to volunteer efforts.

Investment Portfolio

$195 billion in fixed income, equity and other investments (including $17 billion in policy loans) in the general account and $27 billion in separate accounts.

Claims Paid $3.4 billion in life, disability income and long-term care insurance claims paid to policyowners or their beneficiaries in 2014.

Value Returned More than $5.5 billion in total dividends expected to be paid to policyowners in 2015.

Life Insurance $1.5 trillion worth of life insurance protection in force, with 3.7 million people insured through 5.6 million policies.

Disability Income Insurance

497,000 people insured through 746,000 individual disability income policies. 172,000 business owners and employees insured through 12,000 group disability income policies. The company expects to pay $320 million in dividends to disability income insurance policyowners in 2015.

Long-Term Care Insurance 200,000 people insured through 214,000 policies with Northwestern Long Term Care Insurance Company.

Annuities $24 billion worth of annuity assets in 351,000 client contracts.
