The History of Kneipp After curing himself of tuberculosis Sebastian Kneipp
became famous for his Water treatments.
1821 Sebastian Kneipp is born in Stephansried, a small
village in the Allgäu, a region of Germany.
1849 He falls sick with severe tuberculosis and treats
himself with immersion baths in the ice-cold Danube
River, water experiments and applications followed.
1855 He becomes a confessor in Bad Wörishofen and a
significant period in his life follows. He improves
methods to create a successful preventive and
curative concept by treating the sick with extensive
water applications.

The History of Kneipp After curing himself of tuberculosis Sebastian Kneipp
became famous for his Water treatments.
1886 Kneipp publishes his book called “Meine Wasserkur“
(“My Water Cure“) which becomes a bestseller in
Germany and other countries, thus patients start to visit
Bad Wörishofen.
1890 Beside Emporer Wilhelm II and Bismarck, Sebastian
Kneipp is the most famous person in the German
Empire.

The Company History In 1891 Sebastian Kneipp allows his friend Leonhard Oberhäußer to sell products under
his name.
1890 Kneipp meets the Würzburg pharmacist Leonhard Oberhäußer.
1891 He grants Oberhäußer the exclusive rights to develop, produce and sell pharmaceutical, cosmetic as well as dietary products “under the name and with the image of Father Sebastian Kneipp”.
1897 Leonhard Oberhäußer begins to establish the products and brand outside the region.
1976 Kneipp® starts its international business and subsidiaries are established step-by-step in the Netherlands, Switzerland and Japan.
2008 Kneipp® becomes a 100 % subsidiary of Paul Hartmann AG.
2011 Kneipp® gains a benefit for its expertise in face and body care through the aquisition of
Pierre Cattier SAS.
