COMPANY HISTORY

1936–1950

The exciting story of LET begins in 1936 when a branch of AVIA Letňany was built in Kunovice to service AVIA planes. After its establishment, it acted as a repair centre for Avia aircraft. After the occupation of Czechoslovakia, it acted as a repair centre for the German military, repairing mainly Junker W34s and Arado Ar 96bs. After the end of the war, the company was nationalised and repaired almost every type of aircraft that flew in Czechoslovakia.

50sAt the beginning of the 50s, construction began on the new factory (todays company premises), which then started the production of the soviet JAK 11. Later, the company also produced an updated version of the AERO Ae 45 aircraft, the AERO Ae 145.In 1957, the company started production of their first own aircraft, the L 200 Morava, and four years later built the agricultural aircraft Z 37 Cmelak. The company also produced the jet trainer L 29. In 1969, probably the Kunovice factory‘s most successful product, the L 410 was test flown. Over 1 200 of these aircraft have been made to date in various versions and with different modifications, and production has been continuing uninterruptedly since then.

Since the companys formation, they have been producing various gliders, such as the Zlin 22, Z-124 Galanka, LF-Pioneer 109, Z-425 Sohaj. The companys most successfull glider, the L13 Blanik, has been exported to 43 countries. 2649 Blaniks were made before production was discontinued in 1982. Since 1988 the two-seater all-metal L-23 glider has been produced, and from 1991 a single seater all-metal L-33 has been in production.During the companys history, they have also been involved in producing various non-aviation products, from radars to items for the automotive industry.

90sAt the beginning of the 90s, a 40 seater L 610G was developed and tested, however this project was unfortunately cancelled. The status of the business changed from a state owned company, and was privatised. Its 100% ownership belonged to AERO holding. This status once again changed from 1996, when 29% of shares were given to the creditors due to a court settlement. In 1998, Ayres Corporation Inc. became the main share holder, who started developing the LM 200 Loadmaster cargo aircraft.

2001 In August 2001 the company was bought by Moravan Aeroplanes a.s., Otrokovice and at the time the company Letecke zavody, a.s. was founded.

CURRENT SUBCONTRACTING AND PRODUCTION CAPABILITY

The breadth of our production capacity and the quality of our production technology enables us to provide a number of production partnerships. We provide subcontracting to firms in the aviation industry, and also from other fields. A successful example of this is our collaboration with the company GKN Aerospace Transparency Systems (GB), to whom we supply the engine intakes for the CASA 235 aircraft and leading edge slots for the wings of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

We have an entire production facility designed for aircraft production. We can produce a wide range of finished machine parts, parts for metal work and locks, and parts related to riveted, welded or glued assembly. We provide surface treatment of sub-assembled and complete aircraft. We manufacture and inspect aircraft electrical wiring systems. On top of that we produce pipes, push- pull rods and mechanical steering systems. We also produce tested electronic and mechanical units for aircrafts performance systems. During the pre-assembly and assembly process we test fly all produced aircraft. We fit the cabin interior for passengers and crew.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

Aircraft Industries is working on further modernisation of the L 410 NG, which will be certified in 2017 by EASA. Major improvements in comparison with L 410 UVP-E20 are:

payload increasethe size of the front luggage compartment is doubled by extending the aircraft nosenew wing structure with integral fuel tank and increased fuel capacitymore powerful power plant (GE H85 engines and AV 725 propellers)longer service life due to "Damage Tolerance" philosophyfull "Glass Cockpit" technology modernised passenger cabin

Composite door is being developed, to reduce its weight and heat transmission. Stairs are integrated to the bottom part of passenger door for an easy entrance.

We are working together with Honeywell International on research and development of new technology for monitoring, analysing and predicting the state of the aircrafts structure by Structure Health Monitoring (SHM) methods. The research is focused on monitoring the deterioration of airframe parts caused by fatigue and corrosion damage. The developed SHM system will be part of a greater information system linking the logistical systems with the systems of scheduled maintenance, which will lead to a reduction of the overall operational costs and increase of the operational safety of the aircraft.

In addition to existing modernisation projects, our company wants to be involved in national and international programs, which promote the constant development of our aircraft in accordance with current market requirements while keeping up with the current technical and technological levels of the aviation industry worldwide. We are constantly improving our production technology, which is positively reflected in the quality of our products.
