Purpose of this Guide to Documentation This guide provides the basic information for installing, configuring and maintaining ZXG10 BS21 compact outdoor BTS for GSM.

This chapter describes the classification of documentation and the functions and contents of individual manuals.

Classification and Features of Documentation Here, ‘documentation’ refers to technical documents delivered with equipment. Based on the features and usages of individual manuals, documentation can be divided into the following types:

1. Technical: Technical Manual and Hardware Manual

2. Installation: Installation Manual

3. Maintenance: Maintenance Manual

The Guide to Documentation describes the classification of documentation and the use of individual manuals.

Technical documentation includes Technical Manual and Hardware Manual: Technical manuals are the core of documentation. By reading the technical manuals, you can have a complete concept of the entire system. Where, Technical Manual emphasizes on the description of principles, while Hardware Manual focuses on the in-depth description of hardware entities.

Installation documentation refers to Installation Manual—Hardware, used to guide installation personnel to securely, correctly, and canonically install the hardware of the equipment.

Maintenance documentation refers to Maintenance Manual. Maintenance Manual is a reference manual to guide equipment maintenance and fault handling.

Contents of Individual Manuals Technical Manual ZXG10 BS21 (V2.2) Compact Outdoor BTS for GSM Technical Manual mainly introduces the principles, functions and technical features of ZXG10 BS21 (V2.2), providing users with a general idea about the product.

Chapter 1, System Architecture, describes background, standards, major functions, and overall structures of software and hardware of ZXG10 BS21 (V2.2).

Chapter 2, Technical Indices, introduces technical indices of ZXG10 BS21 (V2.2), which involve physical performance, power supply, environmental conditions, interfaces, capacity, clock, and reliability.

Appendix A, Criteria Quoted in the Manual, introduces the files and criteria quoted in this manual.

Appendix B, CDU TX Handling, introduces the CDU TX connection method to get the maximum downlink coverage or lower power consumption.

Hardware Manual ZXG10 BS21 (V2.2) Compact Outdoor BTS for GSM Hardware Manual introduces such contents of ZXG10 BS21, including the overall structure, cabinet and shelf structure as well as the functions and indices of the various modules that constitute the system.

Chapter 1, Cabinet, introduces components, assembly drawings, and wiring diagrams of ZXG10 BS21 (V2.2) cabinet. It describes functions of and communication relations between shelves, and presents technical indices.

Chapter 2, Shelf, introduces structure of top shelf and carrier shelf, and backplane and its communication relation with the carrier shelf.

Chapter 3, Module, introduces configuration, principle diagrams, backplane, interfaces, jumpers, indicators and panels of each module of the base station.

Chapter 4, Antenna Feeder System, introduces components, functions and installation precautions of the antenna feeder system.

Chapter 5, Bottom Plate, introduces important internal and external interfaces as well as signal definitions and description of each interface.

Appendix A, AEM Configurations in Various Sites, introduces configurations of AEM module in different types of stations.

Installation Manual ZXG10 BS21 (V2.2) Compact Outdoor BTS for GSM Installation Manual introduces the overall structure, basic parameters and configurations of ZXG10 BS21 (V2.2). It also describes in detail the engineering installation, such as preparations, the installation methods and flows of different parts, installation check, power-on and power-off procedures, including preparations, installation methods and flow of the parts of the equipment, installations check and power-on/off the equipment.

Chapter 1, Safety Instructions, introduces safety signs and their meanings used in this manual. It introduces safety precautions involved in installation process, like high voltage, lightning, and working at heights.

Chapter 2, Overview, introduces the installation and commissioning flow of the ZXG10 BS21 (V2.2) for installation personnel to get an overall idea about whole process. It also briefly introduces some physical parameters of the ZXG10 BS21 (V2.2), like size, weight, temperature, and humidity.

Chapter 3, Installation Preparations, introduces following preparations: installation environment check, including check on the equipment room building and inside, preparation of necessary tools and instruments, technical documents and unpacking for acceptance of the goods.

Chapter 4, Hardware Installation Flow, briefly introduces procedures of hardware installation.

Chapter 5, Cabinet Installation, introduces cabinet installation, including base location, base installation, cabinet fixation, and insulation test.

Chapter 6, Installation of Power Cables and Grounding Cables, introduces procedures of power and ground cables installation.

Chapter 7, Installation of Internal Cables, introduces how to install and connect the intra-cabinet cables in different types of cabinets, including the backplane and cabinet top.

Chapter 8, Installation of External Cables, introduces how to connect transmission cables, operation and maintenance terminal, and RF cables.

Chapter 9, Installation of Antenna Feeder System, introduces composition and installation procedures of the antenna feeder system.

Chapter 10, Check on Hardware Installation, introduces aspects of system debugging and checking upon completion of the hardware installation.

Chapter 11, Power-on/off, introduces how to plug/unplug a board and power on/off the device.

Appendix A, Packing, Transportation, and Storage, introduces installation methods, storage conditions and transportation precautions to guide the transportation, unpacking, installation, and relocation of the equipment.

Appendix B, Installation Drawings, introduces some drawings in the installation.

Maintenance Manual ZXG10 BS21 (V2.2) Compact Outdoor BTS for GSM Maintenance Manual describes maintenance safety, routine maintenance items and methods, handling of alarm and notification information, handling of common faults and maintenance experiences of the ZXG10 BS21 (V2.2). The manual serves as a reference manual in the maintenance and fault handling of the ZXG10 BS21 (V2.2).

Chapter 1, Maintenance Security, presents the meanings of the signs used in this manual. It also covers some safety precautions related to the

installation procedure, such as precautions against high voltage, thunderstorms and overhead operations.

Chapter 2, Maintenance Overview, introduces daily maintenance categories, common maintenance methods and some precautions on maintenance of ZXG10 BS21 (V2.2) base station controllers.

Chapter 3, Routine Maintenance, explains routine maintenance items of the ZXG10 BS21 (V2.2) base station controller equipment and details instrument requirements, check methods and fault handling of individual maintenance items; among them, the version of the OMCR interface diagram is the software OMCRV2.52.02a for the time being.

Chapter 4, Notification and Handling, provides notification messages related to the ZXG10 BS21 (V2.2) base station controller in the ZXG10-BSS base station subsystem so that the system maintenance personnel can have a clear understanding of notification messages in the system, including meanings causes and handling of notification messages.

Chapter 5, Alarms and Handling, covers the alarm information in the ZXG10-BSS Base Station Subsystem related to ZXG10 BS21 (V2.2), in order for system maintenance personnel to have a clear idea about the alarm messages given by the system, including their meaning, cause and way of handling.

Chapter 6, Troubleshooting, gives an introduction to the universal methods for the common faults of the ZXG10 BS21 (V2.2), including fault symptoms, source, analysis, location and troubleshooting.

Chapter 7, Collection of Maintenance Experience, provides some experience derived from project maintenance for your reference.

Appendix A, Replacement of Modules and Parts, describes the procedure for and precautions on the replacement of modules and backplanes.

Appendix B, Common Maintenance Tables, lists forms used in routine maintenance.

Appendix C, Use of common Instruments and Meters, introduces the instructions on common instruments and meters used for maintaining the ZXG10 BS21 (V2.2) transceiver station.

Appendix D, Operation Maintenance Quality Indexes of Certain Telecom Network (Wireless Part), describes the telecommunication network operation maintenance quality indexes (wireless part) as required by a certain carrier for your reference.

This chapter first presents the relationship between the attached manuals and then introduces how to use the manuals by examples.

Relationship between Manuals of the Documentation Chapter 1 introduces the general idea of each manual. Although these manuals focus on different parts, they are related to each other. The understanding of the relation among the manuals will facilitate efficient use of the documentations. The relation among the manuals is shown in Figure 1.

Note: This documentation kit does not include Man-Machine Interface Manual, Command Manual, Operation Manual and Software Installation Manual, so these manuals are indicated in dotted lines.

As the foundation for other manuals, Technical Manual describes the system principles.

Hardware Manual presents the hardware structure and functions of the whole system.

Installation Manual is used to guide the hardware installation.

Maintenance Manual serves as the basic reference manual for routine equipment maintenance. It provides the maintenance personnel with the most fundamental reference for problem analysis and fault location, and explains the maintenance information on the corresponding interface.

Before using the documentation, please read the Guide to Documentation to learn about the architecture of the documentation and the functions, contents and usage of the manuals.

Example of Using the Manuals Technical Manual To query about the external environment monitoring interface of BS30, you can perform the following steps:

1. Consult the directories of ZXG10 BS21 (V2.2) Compact Outdoor BTS for GSM Technical Manual, find ‘Interface with the External Environment Monitoring System’ at page 78 ~ 84, as shown in Figure 2.

Hardware Manual To learn about the functions and principles of the operation & maintenance unit CMM, you can perform the following steps to query them:

1. Consult the directories of ZXG10 BS21 (V2.2) Compact Outdoor BTS for GSM Hardware Manual and find ‘Functions and Working Principles’ at page 45 ~ 53, as shown in Figure 4.

Installation Manual In the following way, the user can know how to install the grounding card of the antenna system of the BTS system.

1. Consult the directories of ZXG10 BS21 (V2.2) Compact Outdoor BTS for GSM Installation Manual, and find ‘Installing the Grounding Clip’ at page 115 ~ 120, as shown in Figure 7.

2. Turn to page 118 and you may see the text and diagrams shown in Figure 8. The text lists the 5 steps for installing the grounding card along with 3 diagrams in order for users to easily understand the installation methods.
