    Questions 21 27

Read the blog about two friends who go fishing and then answer the questions. For questions 21 27, mark A, B or C on your answer sheet.

    The Fishing Competition

My names Leon and Ive known my friend, Bernie, since I was eleven. Were both fifteen now and enjoy fishing and swimming in the river together. For me, fishings a hobby, but its more than that for Bernie. He fishes in competitions, and hes really good at it.

Two months ago, Bernie asked me to join his team for a fishing competition. I decided to do it. I had six weeks to practise for the competition, which happened last week. So I went fishing when I could, usually all weekend. I help on a farm on Fridays, and I study after school Monday to Thursday for some exams Ive got next month.

Bernie showed me the places in the river that fish usually like, for example around a fallen tree. But I got my biggest fish under a bridge, and Bernie caught a big one by a broken boat.

The morning of the competition arrived, and we started fishing. Nothing happened for two hours, but then I pulled in my first competition fish! We fished until the end of the day, but no-one caught a fish heavier than mine.

Bernie and the team were pleased with my fish and we won tenth place out of twenty-four teams. Bernie hopes to win a competition soon, but one was enough for me. I prefer to fish for fun.

Boy: Can we go to Rabbit Hill? Ive never cycled there before.

Girl: Peter wants to go to Green Hill because its not so far! He doesnt do much cycling.

Boy: Fine, its good there anyway. Are you going to take a picnic?

Girl: Itll be difficult to carry one, so lets just take some money and buy something to eat from the caf.

Boy: Good idea. What time shall we meet to go on the ride?

Girl: I dont know eight thirty?

Boy: Thats a bit early, but if we wait until after nine oclock, the roads will be too busy, wont they?

    Girl: Exactly.

Boy: OK then. Where shall we meet?

Girl: How about in Spring Square? Do you know it? Its at the end of Spring Street, and is quite near all of our houses.

Boy: OK. Can I have your number so I can ring you if there are any problems?

Girl: Yes, its 0-7-double 8-3-4-2-6-5-1. Did you get that?

    Boy: Yes, thanks Debbie.

    Narrator: Now listen again.

Part 5Narrator: You will hear a man giving a talk to his customers

    at a horse riding centre.

Listen and complete questions 21 25.

You will hear the information twice.

Man: Welcome to the Riding Centre. Im your riding teacher, and my names Jack. In a minute, Ill take you to your horses, but I need to tell you a few things first. First, what you need to wear. Everyone must wear a hat, and if you need to borrow one, weve got lots, of all sizes. Im afraid we dont have any boots. Were going to go for a ride to the river today because the beach is too busy at this time of year. Now, the horses love going in the water there, so please leave your camera here if you have one. But it might be a good idea to take a jacket! The price of the ride today is 27.50 for adults, and for young people under the age of 16 its 19.75. We ask our customers to pay before the ride, please. So before we go to the field to get the horses, can you come to the office, please? Its this way

    Narrator: Now listen again.

    [The recording is repeated.]
