• Community service a part of FP curriculum was Under taken during student week in spring 2014
• Four different projects were under taken to ensure that all students got a chance to engage in some form of community service.
• They were led by foundation program faculty in all projects.
• Aas Trust is an NGO working for rehabilitation of drug addicts aged 6 to 16.
• FP was requested to paint the walls of the rehab center situated in PECHS
• Students were made aware of the drug menace on the streets by Akhter of Aas Trust during a presentation at IVS a week earlier.
• The activity was spread out over 3 days. Students got a chance to interact with inmates as well as execute the painting project.
• The project was challenge in terms the preset ideas students had about what kinds of imagery and color pallet 6-16 year old prefer.
• Students learned that the color pallet for drug and abuse subjected children has to be subdued.
• Students could not use any familiar imagery which could trigger memories of the past of inmates of drug rehab.
• Paints were chosen with care to not trigger the carving for glue sniffing or any other addictive substance
• Smokers students were not allowed to participate in activity as smoke smell could also be a trigger.
• Students were also requested to not create any emotional attachment or give any gifts like toffees etc. to the inmates.
• Instructions about the imagery was• Neutral color palette• Fairy tale or dream like imagery• Sports could be a theme• Positive images and slogans could be used
