Biography.
Out of Stoke-on-Trent, a rough around the edges city
with hardship woven into its tapestry come
Community. A five piece composing of Charles, Calum,
Chris, Jake and Rob, friends since their early teens
with one intrinsic connection: making music.
Starting out with their idols covering the walls,
the belief in making their musical mark has never
been lost with Community. Playing bars & clubs not
even old enough to drink in, the sound has matured &
developed into the polished guitar heavy sound of
today, with the reflective lyrics pulled together
with Charlie’s echoing voice.
Ask the band who has influenced them & you will get
a long diverse list spanning generations, decades
and genres. The haunting sound of the National can
be heard as can the Dylan-esque War on Drugs, but as
their idols have shaped them both personally &
musically, the sound of Community has become
something identifiably and definitely their own.
Biography Cont.
The band settled on the name after a discussion on
what mattered to them the most. A ten year
friendship binds them together & aside from their
musical talent and passion, their bond as friends is
something present with them & in their songs.
With their EP currently being worked on day & night
and under the management of Industry, the band are
on the verge of gearing up to take on the Music
Industry. The integrity, belief in music’s ability
to orchestrate change are at the foundations of this
bands ethos. At a time where money risks dominating
music, Community shine out. Great music is at their
core, & will always be the ultimate goal.

We hooked up for a chat with Calum to see what makes the band tick.
How long have you been playing?
We have been separately singing and playing in different bands for about six
to seven years,
but we came together as a group and have been performing and writing for
about three years.
What genre of music do you play?
I suppose you'd have to categorise it as alternative, although we are aware
that's very often
just a reflex answer, especially with the way music changes. But, yeah,
alternative.

Reviews and Press.
Why did you start playing?
Well we've all grown up on music, it was the main thing we had in common,
and i think it
just got to a stage where we all wanted to have a go at it, trying to keep
getting better
and create something we were happy with and see where it takes us.
What’s your most memorable musical moment?
There have been so many and a lot of individual highlights I am sure, but I
think
we'd all agree one of the best was a few years ago at Latitude Festival,
coming together
to watch Grizzly Bear and The National, that was a great highlight for us
all,
two bands that have massively influenced us.
What’s your dream?
It'd be quite easy on this question to go with success, there's quite a
large view
of making it at the moment. I think for us though making music we are proud
of and
it being out there is what we want

Community – a journey.
Community connects and embraces. It is human. It is
communication. The band, both live & in the studio
personify this in a sonic stew of tenderness & power
that reaches out to both head and heart.
The narrative is this; boys baulking, brainy & belligerent begin in backyards and blossom to bars
and headline slots at the Roadhouse and Night and
Day. From teenage aches and tantrums, these boys
now stand upright as young men with songs to match
themselves; proud and bold in a world where
community matters.
Though based in Manchester, their 'hometowns' that
they sing about are the six towns of the Potteries
and North Staffordshire. These are hard places to
grow in & yet Community did just that. They did so
because there is diligence and craft to what they
do Community gets nowhere without hard work.
Community – a journey cont.
Their story moves on to the band playing in
London venues. They return to the world-famous
Metropolis studios where they work with an
engineer with a Grammy to his name. Community
are on the verge. They are ready to go.
What is community? Community is strong. It
stands together. It gets stronger. Community
are a band for whom the music does the
talking. The songs are rich, textured and
considered. Lyrics have movement, meaning and
connection. The sound is dynamic, demanding to
be heard, and with the songs of Community once
is never enough. But, what you hear when you
hear Community is the bristle of a quiet but
ferocious determination to succeed, to make
music that matters to people.
Community
Forget the words of Margaret Thatcher. There is such a thing as
community. And once you hear them, you'll know why.
