MAYOR’S MESSAGEOn behalf of Council and staff, it is my pleasure to introduce the 2019 Spring & Summer edition of the Parks, Recreation and Culture Guide .

Throughout the year, we continuously seek new initiatives with our local partners to promote a healthy community . Inside this guide, you’ll find wonderful programs and events that spark imagination, promote physical activity and provide the opportunity to learn something new!

The 1st Annual Health and Wellness Fair will be held on May 11, 2019 at the CRCC to engage participants to share their passion for health and wellness . Demonstrations, presentations, wellness exhibits and try it classes will all be a part of this interactive event .

A healthy community is also an inclusive community . The recently renovated Schep Park playground includes accessible equipment such as the “friendship swing” and the new Pioneer Park playground will feature a rubberized play surface, wheelchair ramps, sensory equipment, swings, slides and a spinner that any child, regardless of their abilities can enjoy .

The Centennial Park Outdoor Fitness Circuit will also undergo an expansion with additional exercise equipment to improve our community’s well-being with low-barrier fitness opportunities . The outdoor circuit is designed for 13+ years and is fully accessible for those with limited mobility .

Many of the programs, events and improvements in our community are sponsored by government grants and community partnerships . The District facilitates these opportunities to create a “strong” and more sustainable community for everyone .
