    Think about whooping cough

A respiratory illness that might be orgotten during the inuenza (u) season is pertussis

(whooping cough). Whooping cough is a bacterial inection which can present initially as a

u-like illness but develops into a cough which can persist or several weeks.

In adults, whooping cough rarely produces severe complications but inectious adults canpass the disease on to others. O most concern are young children under six months o age

who are more likely to become severely ill and suer serious complications rom inection. To prevent the spread o inection, anyone with a coughing illness should stay home romwork or school during the inectious period.

Vaccination is the best way to protect yoursel and the community rom whooping cough.

Whooping cough vaccination is provided to babies and children as part o the routine
