Alliance Air Show to host booths for ATX employers

T he 2013 Fort Worth Alliance Air Show, presented by Bell Helicopter, will be held on Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20. The

2013 show, held at Fort Worth Alliance Airport, boasts a proud theme celebrating generations of military from the greatest generations to present day – Honoring Our Past, Inspiring Our Future.

The Black Diamond Jet Team will headline the show and are joined by a stacked lineup of world-class performers. Aerobatic superstar and former Red Bull Air Race champion Kirby Chambliss and the Red Bull Air Force along with the Fort Worth Thunderbirds Radio Control Association will spice up the line up. The Shockwave Jet Truck will heat up the runway reaching speeds of more than 300 miles per hour as it shoots out flames and smoke.

Celebrating our theme, the show boasts a large contingency of military acts, including one of the largest WWII historical battle reenactments in the U.S. featuring hundreds of authentic American and German reenactors along with tanks, armored personnel carriers, artillery, aerial dogfights, and bomber runs.

TORA, TORA, TORA, a moving historical reenactment of the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor combines Japanese bombers, fighters and an exciting pyrotechnics display to honor the War on the Pacific. Other military participants will include the Liberty Jump Team in vintage WWII uniform, the All-Veteran Parachute Team, a large contingent of classic military aircraft, the U.S. Air Force Heritage Flight featuring a P-47 Thunderbolt alongside a P-51 Mustang, and the very Vietnam-era MiG-17 flown by Randy Ball from Tyler, Texas.

The “Aviation Adventures” area will feature hands-on aviation educational activities for kids of all

ages, games, opportunities to meet aviation legends, and lots of fun stuff. Two obstacle courses and the Virtual Army Experience along with several simulators, including the P-51, F-4, and the M-4 which has five different rides, offer families unique experiences. Two Kidz’ Zone fun areas will offer children and parents additional activities that promote aviation education with fun, interactive activities for kids and families.

Fort Worth Alliance Air Show is a non-profit event. Proceeds from the show support the DFW USO and other non-profit, North Texas organizations.

General admission for the show is free; there is a $20 fee per vehicle for parking. The show offers premium seating options for every budget, providing the best view of the show. Tickets are on sale now at AllianceAirShow.com and sell out quickly. n

Support to Families of Firefighters in Arizona wildfire TragedyThe June 30 tragedy in Yarnell, Arizona marked the greatest loss of firefighters during a wildfire since 1933. The Interagency Hotshot crew – considered an elite group of firefighters – lost all but one of their 20-person team.

ATX Air Services, formed in early 2013, is locat-ed on the southeastern edge of the Fort Worth Alliance Airport. When hearing of the lives lost to the wildfire, ATX Air Services immediately offered their support to the Wildland Firefighter Association. Plans were made to transport several of the fallen firefighters’ families to and from the memorial service in Prescott, Arizona and bring their sons back home.

The team then flew to the National Interagency Fire Center in Boise. The NIFC had partnered with the Wildland Firefighter Foundation to create the Wildland Firefighter Monument, a 2,000-pound, 10-foot-tall bronze statue and wanted to transport the statue to the Prescott memorial service. The team transported the statue, the DeFord family and several Foundation members to their next stop in Arizona – where a 20-person Hotshot crew came together to unload the statue.

On Wednesday, July 8, the ATX team and the Honor Guard began an emotional journey with three families, each carrying a son home to pro-cessions of more than 30 firefighters and bands of bagpipers. Three days later, upon mission complete, the emotionally taxed and solemn crew made the final journey back to AllianceTexas.

Aligning with the longstanding commitment of the Perot family and Hillwood Development Company to help those in need, this will not be the last volunteer effort for ATX Air Services.

Celebrate recovery offers hopeHeritage Church of Christ has started a local chapter of Celebrate Recovery that meets on Thursday nights. Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered ministry that applies the successful 12 step model to recovery from all manners of hurts, habits and hang-ups, not just addiction recovery. Deciding when an injury or illness rises to the level of a medical emergency can

sometimes be tricky. How do you know if the sudden abdominal pain that woke you at 3 am warrants a trip to the emergency department (ED)?

The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) has developed a list of warning signs to help you know when it’s time to get to the nearest ER. This list and more tips for navigating the ED can be found on the ACEP’s website: www.emergencycareforyou.org

• Chest or upper abdominal pain or pressure

• Fainting, sudden dizziness, weak-ness

• Changes in vision

• Confusion or changes in mental status

• Any sudden or severe pain

• Coughing or vomiting blood

• Suicidal feelings

• Difficulty speaking

• Shortness of breath

• Unusual abdominal pain

Emergency Care Close to Home - Since opening its doors a year ago, Texas Health Alliance’s Emergency Department has grown quickly. In fact, hospital officials anticipate approximately 24,000 patients will have been cared for in the ED by the end of its first year. That’s more vis-its than people who live in Saginaw!
