GREATER AKRON —The Summit County Histori-cal Society (SCHS) is lookingfor volunteers of all ages whowould like to get involved.
Founded in 1924, theSCHS is a private, 501(c)(3)nonprofit corporation. Its mis-sion is to preserve and inter-pret the history of SummitCounty and Akron and to edu-
cate regional communitiesabout the people and eventsthat have shaped history.
The Historical Society Ser-vice League is looking specifi-cally for people who have aninterest in any of the following:
• serving as a tour guide atthe Perkins Stone Mansion andJohn Brown house locations at550 Copley Road in West
Akron. Tours are conducted onWednesdays through Satur-days from noon to 4 p.m. Vol-unteers must be willing to workat least one complete four-hourshift per month. All volunteersmust participate in a two-hourtraining session prior to begin-ning work;
• providing curatorial assis-tance. Volunteers are needed
to work with managing thecollections inventory, care ofartifacts and exhibition dis-play and design. Training onartifact care is provided;
• education outreach to ele-mentary schools. Volunteersprovide an in-class programon one of several availabletopics aimed at fourth gradestudents. Training is offered,
and scheduling is flexible;• adult outreach to assisted
living and nursing facilities.Volunteers conduct on-siteprograms to seniors on a vari-ety of available topics. Train-ing is offered, and schedulingis flexible; and
• gardening assistance. Vol-unteers are needed to helpmaintain the extensive gardens
at the Perkins Stone Mansionand John Brown house.

• FAIRLAWN — CopleyUnited Methodist Churchwill sponsor a Women’s Dayof Enrichment Sept. 9 from 9a.m. to 3 p.m. at RosemontCountry Club. The featuredspeaker will be Tracy Rado-sevic, an internationallyacclaimed storyteller. Herskills as a storyteller are a cat-alyst for women to connect toGod, themselves and others,according to event organiz-ers. The cost is $10 per per-son and includes lunch. Call
