Canoe Kayak Saskatchewan Whitewater Division NCCP Community Kayak Instructor Course Canoe Kayak Saskatchewan would like to invite you to participate in an exciting introductory kayak instructor program specifically designed for teachers, lifeguards, high school and university students, youth coordinators, cultural leaders, and other community members. These courses are being hosted by the Saskatoon Whitewater Kayak Club. The CanoeKayak Canada Community Kayak Instructor Program is a nationally recognized NCCP instructional program designed to certify introductory kayak instructors so they can offer kayak programs at any local swimming pool or lakefront. We want to support communities in Saskatchewan to provide fun and exciting recreational and sport programs to their community members through kayaking. The Community Kayak Instructor Program covers the introductory skills needed to paddle a kayak safely and responsibly. Participants do not require any prior paddling experience. Participants will learn about: Kayaking Disciplines – including competition and recreation Proper fitting of kayak equipment including boats, paddles, helmets, PFDs, clothing and other safety equipment Paddling safety and etiquette Getting in and out of a boat Wet exits with and without a spray skirt and self rescues Basic techniques; forward, reverse and turning strokes, balance, using your body and edges Bracing Introduction to more advanced skills such as rolling This program will also touch on group dynamics and class management as well as encourage participants to include fun and excitement in their lessons. Where equipment allows, participants will have the opportunity to try various types of equipment in order to see what would be best for their community. Participants will receive a resource guide to help with preparation of programs and lessons. Course Dates Course #1: Sunday, March 18 – 9:00am to 6:00pm – Saskatoon YMCA Course #2: Saturday, March 24 – 9:00am to 6:00pm – Saskatoon YMCA Course #3: Sunday, March 25 – 9:00am to 6:00pm – Saskatoon YMCA Courses fill fast so please register by Monday, March 12th Cost $150.00 per participant payable by cheque or money order Age Minimum of 16 years of age What you need Participants will require: Swim Suit & Towel Water Bottle Goggles and nose plugs (optional) Pen and notebook Positive attitude

Brendan is an accomplished kayaker, instructor and coach who has worked throughout Canada as well as in the US and Europe. As a NCCP Level 3 Coach and Level 2 Learning Facilitator, Brendan develops and runs school and club kayaking programs, and notably, Saskatchewan’s only whitewater racing program. Brendan also works with Canoe Kayak Canada as a technical coach with the National Whitewater Slalom Team and maintains a role as a representative of the Province to help promote the sport of kayaking in Saskatchewan and throughout Canada.

Canoe Kayak Saskatchewan Participant’s Agreement

Canoe Kayak Saskatchewan (CKS) is a non-profit sport governing body established for the benefit of its members and others who participate in its programs and activities (the “CKS Programs”). In consideration of my participation in the CKS Programs, I hereby agree to the terms and conditions in this agreement. Awareness of Risks I am aware that participating in the sport of sprint canoe and kayaking involves risks, including risk of personal injury, death, property damage, expense and related loss, including loss of income. These risks arise as a result of my participation in the CKS Programs, including training, competition, travel and transportation. Medical Fitness and Treatment I am fully aware of the nature of the CKS Programs in which I may participate, and I am of the informed opinion that I am qualified, in good health, and in proper physical condition to participate in such Programs. I further agree and warrant that if at any time I believe that my health and physical condition have changed such that it would be unsafe for me to continue to participate in the Programs, I will immediately discontinue my participation. I hereby give my consent to have any coach, assistant coach, trainer or other CKS official act as my surrogate in securing ambulance service and to have an athletic trainer and/or doctor of medicine or dentistry provide me with medical assistance and/or treatment under whatever conditions are necessary to preserve my life, limb or well-being. Such consent shall not, however, establish a fiduciary relationship, nor be considered a power of attorney or health care proxy. I further agree to be responsible financially for the cost of each assistance and/or treatment rendered. Release I agree to accept and be solely responsible for any injury, loss or damage which I might sustain while participating in CKS Programs. I further agree to release CKS and its respective directors, officers, employees, instructors, coaches, students, volunteers and members of all responsibility for such injury, loss or damage.
