GREETINGS FROM YOUR AMERICAN LEAGUE CHAMPION KANSAS CITY ROYALS!We’re happy to present this 2014 newsletter highlighting the Club’s community outreach efforts, including record-breaking fundraising and giving levels from the team’s foundation, Royals Charities. Through player and staff engagement, photos, facts and figures, we hope this gives you a sense of my family’s com-mitment to Royals fans and the needs of the Greater Kansas City area and the entire Midwest. Fresh off a magical season on and off the field in 2014, we pledge the same and more in 2015 with your support.
Dan Glass, Royals President
Diamond of DreamsRoyals Charities hosted its largest fundraiser of the year, Diamond of Dreams, on the field at Kauffman Stadium. Once again, the 2014 event supported Royals Charities and The University of Kansas Hospital Neonatal Medical Home.
50/50 RAFFLE
COMMUNITY 3
Mark Mohler, game-day representative for the Royals Charities 50/50 Raffle, sells a raffle ticket to a fan. Mark was recognized as the raffle’s top fundraiser, responsible for more than $184,000 in sales during the 2014 season.
Royals Charities celebrated right along with players and fans during a pennant-winning season in 2014. For the second year, the foundation offered the 50/50 Raffle presented by Edelman & Thompson at every Royals home game. Fans purchased tickets for a chance to win half of the prize pot raised during each game. The raffle raised more than $644,000 for Royals Charities, distributed to the Kansas City nonprofit community
through a grant application process. Postseason games alone brought in more than one-third of that total and allowed Royals Charities to open a special postseason grant funding opportunity. Game 7 of the World Series brought the record-setting prize pot of $74,660. Organizations receiving funds raised from the 50/50 Raffle all support children, education, the military, and youth baseball/softball in and around the Kansas City area.
The Buck O’Neil Legacy Seat program continued in 2014 and will for years to come. Buck spent many days and nights supporting the Royals from the same seat behind home plate at Kauffman Stadium, both as a scout and a fan. To honor Buck, the program fills “Buck’s Seat” every home game with a member of the community who embodies an aspect of Buck’s inspiring spirit.

CHILDREN
Royals pitcher Greg Holland gets ready to take a slide with Dylan while shooting the 2015 “A Year of Hope Royals Calendar” at Kauffman Stadium. Royals Charities partnered with Braden’s Hope for Childhood Cancer Research to feature Royals players posing with local childhood cancer heroes. Royals Charities has raised more than $10,000 through the project for Braden’s Hope. For more information or to purchase a calendar, visit royals.com/calendar.
Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer gives back to the community in a big way. He con-tinued to support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City in 2014. He also hosted “Uncork for a Cause” to benefit the Greater Kansas City Fire Fighters Local 42 Community Assistance organization. Eric arranged for several teammates and special guests to attend the event.
Royals All-Star outfielder Alex Gordon poses with fans at an event for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, named for a young girl who lost her battle with cancer after setting up lemonade stands for cancer research. Our own Alex welcomes children diagnosed with cancer to the ballpark, visits others at local hospitals, and encourages fans to host their own lemonade stands.
Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas prepares to fist bump Calvin, one of hundreds of Dream Factory children who have visited Kauffman Stadium over the years. The Royals grant the wish of youngsters who face serious challenges. Their families meet Royals players in the dugout, watch batting practice before the gates open and enjoy the game and refreshments.
EDUCATION & MILITARY
COMMUNITY 5
Royals pitcher Jeremy Guthrie joined Ericsson to encourage fans to recycle electronics and phones through appearances at local Sprint Stores. Fans turned in hundreds of items for recycling and received Royals tickets.
Baseball Hall of Famer George Brett, announcers Jeff Montgomery and Rex Hudler and Royals pitcher Jeremy Guthrie met returning soldiers deployed to Afghanistan during the annual Winter Caravan.
Royals pitcher Wade Davis and his wife, Katelyn, along Royals Charities director Marie Dispenza, present a $20,000 check to the Wounded Warrior Project. Royals Charities matched the Davis family’s $10,000 donation to support military veterans.
Military men and women carried flags during the annual Royals Charities 5K Run/Walk.
Surrounding Father’s Day, the Royals partner with the National Center for Fathering to hold a school essay contest. Nearly 3,000 local students submit essays entitled “What My Father Means to Me.” The winning authors and their fathers are treated to a game and recognition during a special pre-game ceremony.
Royals Charities and the Kansas City Royals teamed up with The Ali Kemp Educational Foundation in September to host a T.A.K.E. Defense self-de-fense class for the seventh year on the Kauffman Stadium field. The class is free and open to all females ages 12 and older.

Royals Charities director Marie Dispenza presents a check for $200,000 to Cle Ross, executive director of the Kansas City, Kansas, Reviving Baseball in the Inner Cities (RBI) Program during the postseason. Royals Charities and remaining dollars from the 2012 All-Star Lasting Legacy Program will help support a major field renovation in KCK’s inner city.
Royals outfielder Lorenzo Cain tees a ball up at a dedication ceremony at McCoy Park in Independence, Mo., for one of two adaptive field projects completed in 2014. Royals Charities worked with Variety Children’s Charity of Greater Kansas City and the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation to build the fields for youngsters with disabilities. Proceeds from the 2012 Major League Baseball Gatorade All-Star Workout Day at Kauffman Stadium helped fund the fields.
