1. Describe The Community based on the following characteristics:
a. Environment
The environment in Barangay Sta. Mercedez (Patungan) is very
rich in forest and water resources. They are enclosed in the mountain
while facing the sea. More of the surroundings are compose of plants and
forestry.
b. Population
The population in the Barangay is divided into three divisions –
Kanluran – Apolonya, Silangan and Gitna. Approximately, Kanluran –
Apolonya has 300 families. Silangan has 250 families and Gitna has 250
families too. The population there is mostly composed of children.
c. Genetic Characteristic of the population
Most of the people in the community have the same complexion of
dark brown skin. The genetic characteristics of the people there in the
community are more likely expressed also in the community here at
Dasmarinas City.
d. Systems of health care (prevention, promotion, cure and rehabilitation)
The community of Patungan actually lack this system of health
care. Doctors and medical personnel came from the outside of the
community once or twice a month. There are some identified person in the

community as well can perform such tasks but they really lack of
equipments and facilities. They most likely can accommodate only first
aid medication and not further than that anymore.
2. What do you think are the outstanding social problem of the community?
Explain why.
As I see and analyze the community, health is the outstanding
social problem. There is no sufficient medication for the complex diseases
and even the minor ones. Lack of experienced personnel also may affect
the status of health in the community.
Next would be the housing, there are only few and numbered
families who I can say have at least comfortable and good housing facility.
Most of the families there are living in the Nipa hut which is not that
structurally stable, not to mention the location of the houses. There are
some of those are located beside the sea and river, which is dangerous for
some instances of flood.
Third social problem would be the population and social control in
the community. Actually, it is very alarming also that there are many
families are staying and migrating from different location in Luzon.
According to the former barangay captain, there are only few of them that
are originated from the community. Most of the families came from
Quezon and other location. With regards to the quantity of the people, the
officials will have a hard time in controlling the peace, order and other
factors to make the community free from any harm. Also, it will be hard
for them to evacuate all the families if there is an instance of flood of other
natural phenomena.

Recreation and crime would tie in the last spot for the social
problem in the community. There are some structures like playground,
basketball court and volleyball court in the community but it is not enough
to cater the whole community. The crime rate in the community is not that
high.
3. Are the eight (8) subsystems present in the community? If not, which is
missing or not met by the community?
a. Housing
Present, but not all families have stable houses.
b. Education
Elementary and Secondary (1st – 3rd year) are available.
c. Fire and safety
No fire station.
d. Politics and government
Barangay level of government only.
e. Health
There is a health center, but no supplies and lack of experienced
personnel.
f. Communication
Smart network have signal, while other don’t really have.

g. Economics
Very low. They just depend on the water and forestry resources.
h. Recreation
Not sufficient.
4. Describe their cultures and traditions in the barangay. Do they have
similarities/ differences in our culture and traditions?
With regards to the culture of the people there, they are very
disciplined in time, where the family should be inside the house at night.
Fiesta is also observed there. Other superstitious beliefs are still instilled
and practiced there.
