Clark ecd pre- school was established in 2010Athiru Gaiti ECD project was started in 2010 with the main aim of supporting Orphans and vulnerable children under the age of 3- 6 years, to access early childhood education development and train their caregivers and the siblings on different service areas as outlined here below:.Food and Nutrition – to ensure that the children get balanced diet and parents/guardians are food secure by planting appropriate crops and vegetablesEconomic Empowerment – Guardians are trained on SILC (self Internal Lending Communities) whereby they contribute money and then they loan to each other for them to start small Income Generating Activities.Child Protection – Guardians are trained on the rights of the children and the children are also made to know their rights.Psychosocial Support – The program provides technical

support in training TOTs (training of trainers) who later train members of the community and the guardians.HIV/AIDs prevention and awareness creation in the communityThe program provides essential early childhood education to OVC who would otherwise not get the chance to go to school. When the program started we had enrollments of OVC as old as 9 years and above who had never gone to school or received any formal education.Currently the school is housed at MCK - Athiru Gaiti Methodist church and we have 5 complete classes and 3 of them are in use, while we plan to have one of the classes to be used for the vocational trainings at the school.

Clark ECD pre- school library The centre has established a vocational classroom that will provide skills in the community like computers, tailoring and knitting. This will enhance growth and continued positive effect on the lives of the children and the entire community at large.

Livestock projectWe also have a pig stay and a poultry house at the school. This is for the purpose of keeping small animals in the school for children to start learning how to rear animals at their homes when they are young. The pigs are already in school and the children are so excited to have them around.

The school rabbits help the children to study how to care for the environment and small animals for their food provision and Income generation for their future when they grow. The pig will give birth in the next two Months. This great opportunities willing to give an animal to a children and get individual report every six months.

As part of our plan the centre has started installation of

electricity in school to enable the school deliver all the services properly and lighting the school for security. With support from the caregivers we have started a kitchen garden at the school where we growing vegetables. This will help in feeding of the children and also for them to learn how to grow them. The restrooms are enough for the pupils and the teaching staff, they were kept cleanOne of the pigs gave birth to 6 piglets and after three months they were sold and raised ksh. 30,000/ ($ 352 dollars)

DRILLING OF WATER AT CLARK ECD PRE- SCHOOLThe water project at Clark ECD Pre- school started a few years ago- with Germantown UMC friends and partners- at the time, it was assumed the donation was enough to drill the well but we came learn that we needed more money to accomplish the project…. in December 2013 Tuesday giving many friends at GUMC

gave matching gifts and the balance of about $6,000 was kindly and generously given by Karibuni Trust of UK. On behalf of the people of Athiru Gaiti community and Clark ECD Pre- School, we wish to express our appreciation and gratitude for the gift of this commodity.

The church congrega on came out at the borehole site to pray and celebrate the joy of drilling the water

NEW HOPE ECD PRE-SCHOOL (MCK KIRAONE METHODIST CHURCH)Based on the success of the establishment of Athiru Gaiti (Clark) ECD School to address the needs of the local community for quality education for aids orphans and to provide vocational education for adults in the near future, a donor has made it possible to try to replicate this fi rst ECD school at a new location. So far, the foundation has been laid and the walls are going up. Completion is still some time away but it should be up and running for the new school year beginning on January 1st, 2016. It should be noted that some of the funds for

this new project were received from the United Methodist Church throrough thier #Givingtuesday campaign where funds are matched for every dollar contributed up to a maximum of $2,500 per donor. The building plan is that one classroom will be constructed fi rst with others to follow as the program proves its viability by attracting students and support from the local community.Watch our newsletter for frequent updates and, hopefully, pictures of the fi rst day of school in January, 2016.

YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS AT WORKKevin Mugambi - an orphan under the care of the grandparents who are poor, the child was born with congenital hump on the back which means he will not develop properly. He was found by Jim and Sue at small school (PARKGATE) run by John “the Carver” at Maua Basin Hotel. The boy is-very bright and talented. Through friends and well-wishers, the boy was taken to Kijabe cure hospital outreach clinic at Meru hospital where the clinician who saw Kevin decided the boy would benefi t from the spinal fusion operation. This would allow the chest to grow without pinching the nerves which would otherwise make the child paralyzed. The operation was successful and the boy was discharged after a few days in the hospital. Kevin returned to the hospital on 8th of April for fi tting the body jacket that he will keep for several weeks… right now the boy is admitted in the Maua Methodist hospital for wound care and dressings/ treatment before he can go back to Kiutine/Ndoleli where he lives with elderly grandparents. I am kindly asking our friends and partners to support the Maua Methodist Hospital’s Service Fund to help the hospital help such very poor families, orphans and vulnerable children who are often abandoned in the hospital. We are so thankful to those who donate to the hospital Service Fund which care for such Orphans and vulnerable Children
