Women, Do you know you don’t have to go to a specialist to
have your yearly pap exam? It can be done by your PCP. Ask
your Community Health Clinic PCP about scheduling your exam

The Community Health Clinic, Inc.,
conference room was packed with about 20
community members, staff , and board
members on Thursday, August 16, 2018 for
the National Health Center Week Luncheon.
The Keynote speaker was Alison Beam, Chief
of Staff of the PA Insurance Department. Ms.
Beam spoke very positively about the recently
released proposed rates for Health Insurance
Marketplace plans. She emphasized the
importance for consumers to shop during open
enrollment. She also discussed many new
tools available to assist consumers on the
Insurance Department Website.
Tim Phillips, the director of the Westmoreland
Drug Overdose Task Force, gave a powerful
presentation on the Opioid Crisis. Tim made
note of both positives and negatives in the
fight against opioid addiction in the county.
He urged the community to action, especially
considering, the recently released statistics
from the CDC, that 72,000 Americans died
last year from overdoses. He argued that were
these deaths attributed to any other cause,
such as natural disasters, disease or violence;
there would be a much greater clamor for a
solution. But sadly, because of the stigma
associated with addiction there is not the
public outcry for action and solutions.
Tim also provided hope, outlining some
positives-including the downward trend of
overdose deaths in the county during the first
quarter of 2018.
Danielle McMahan, from the Westmoreland
Area Agency on Aging, provided a whirlwind
tour of the various programs and services
available through her agency.

Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)
For Substance Abuse
Now Available to All Community
Members!
Community Health Clinic, Inc. is now able
to provide Medication Assisted Treatment
for substance abuse to all community
members. A person does not have to receive
their primary care services from us in order
to receive these services. Of course, for
those that don’t have a primary care
physician; we will be glad to provide those
services as well.
What is MAT? Medication Assisted
Treatment is the use of FDA-approved
medications, in combination with
counseling and behavioral therapies, to
provide a “whole-patient” approach to the
treatment of substance use disorders.
How It Works: Opioid addiction is a
serious and common problem in our
community. Community Health Clinic, Inc.,
can provide Medication Assisted Treatment
for adult men and women addicted to
opioids, such as heroin. Select providers
can prescribe buprenorphine (Suboxone)
and Vivitrol. These medications decrease
cravings and withdrawal symptoms which
helps the patient focus on other aspects of
their treatment plan to recovery. While
these medications do not cure opioid
addiction, they can assist in the
development of healthy and effective skills
to be free and rid of opioids entirely.
Patients in the MAT program will be under
close supervision, and are expected to
follow medical advice from the provider
and staff. Patients will also be required to
maintain additional treatment and recovery
support such as participating in drug and
alcohol counseling and AA or NA meetings
regularly.
How does Suboxone work?
Suboxone is a dissolvable medication that is
taken under the tongue or inside your cheek.
Suboxone will be prescribed with the
expectation that the patient is participating
in therapy. (Drug and alcohol counseling or
AA/NA meetings) Continued on page 10.

How does Vivitrol Work?
Vivitrol is an injection of long-acting
naltrexone, which is an opioid receptor
blocker, administered every 28 days.
Vivitrol will be prescribed with the
expectation that the patient is participating
in therapy.
What is the cost?
The cost will vary from patient to patient.
Do I need a Referral?
You do not need a referral.
How long is the Program?
The duration will vary from person to
person. Your provider will closely monitor
your progress on these medications and will
provide individualized care based on his/her
evaluation. Patients can expect to be seen
on average 30 times a year, at the discretion
of the provider.
What to expect?
Supportive help
Referral to drug and alcohol counselor
Attendance at weekly AA/NA meetings
Urine drug screening

Outreach and Enrollment
Health Insurance Scammers
Open Enrollment for the Federal Marketplace
begins November 1st and ends December
15th.
Unfortunately, there are many scammers that
are trying to exploit consumers during Open
Enrollment. They may attempt to steal
personal information or falsely represent their
plans as marketplace plans or other deceptive
practices.
Helpful Note:
The Health Insurance Marketplace does not
make cold calls. Consumers may receive pre-
recorded messages from the Marketplace with
updates about their account. Marketplace staff
will only call them for authorized reasons.
These Include:
A technical error on Healthcare.gov that
prevented a consumer for fully enrolling
in coverage. (Most likely you will also
have received an error message on your
application)
To verify or add information about
income or identity (That is a data
matching issue) You should have received
notice of this during the application
process.
The health insurance company is no
longer offering the consumer’s plan
through the Marketplace.
Beware of Fraudulent Websites
When accessing the Healthcare Marketplace
it is best to type in the website:
https://www.healthcare.gov/
If you search for it through a search engine
you may land on a “spoof site”. Many of
these look very similar to the real website.
Some ask for your phone number-as soon as
you type your number in– you will start
receiving a extremely high volume of calls
many of which are not for legitimate
insurance.
How to report suspicious calls or emails
You should report suspicious calls or emails
immediately to the Federal Trade
Commission at
https://ftccomplaintassistant.gov
You can report insurance fraud to the
Pennsylvania Department of Insurance
https://www.insurance.pa.gov

Please remember it is important to update
your information and review the plans
