Aimee and her support team dubbed ‘Aimee’s Army,’ tirelessly fundraised for the past 12 months. Her efforts are inspirational, demonstrating what can be achieved to support PCYC Queensland through community engagement. Aimee has achieved a remarkable result for the local Mount Isa community; we arethrilled and truly thankful for the effort that has gone into her campaign promoting PCYC Queensland.

Further congratulations are also due to our 12 Gold Awardees who were recognised at the recent Duke of Edinburgh’s (DoE) International Award Ceremony held in Brisbane on Friday, 19 July. PCYC Queensland changing Tyrone’s story Tyrone did not attend mainstream school, and spent a lot of time cooking and caring for his eight siblings. By the time he reached high school age he still had no literacy or numeracy skills.

“When I started school, I was completely illiterate and innumerate.”

Tyrone wanted to change his story. He wanted to fulfil his dreams of getting an education, getting his driver’s licence, and becoming an independent adult. At age 15, using his cooking skills to his advantage Tyrone secured a chef apprenticeship. At age 16, Tyrone was referred to PCYC Queensland for tutoring and mentoring support. At his local club, Tyrone was supported through school and helped with tutoring expenses. By 17, he enrolled himself into the school system for the very first time.

He was also introduced to PCYC Braking the Cycle, our volunteer driver mentor program, to help him obtain his driver’s licence.

“Before doing Braking the Cycle, I was terrified of driving. I wouldn’t have even been able to pass the test to actually get my Ls. Without PCYC Queensland, I wouldn’t be able to drive, I wouldn’t be able to write properly.”

Since becoming a member of PCYC Queensland, Tyrone has finished his high school education and has been accepted into university. With his mentor’s dedication and encouragement, he is also close to obtaining his licence, realising his dream of independence.

With your financial support, PCYC Queensland can continue changing the lives of young Queenslanders like Tyrone by providing education and training opportunities.

PCYC Mount Isa fundraising ‘Queen’!Recently crowned the 2019 Mount Isa Rodeo Queen as part of the annual Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo Queen Quest, PCYC Queensland congratulates Acting Senior Constable Aimee Sewell on her amazing fundraising efforts over the last 12 months, raising the astounding amount of $80,174 for PCYC Mount Isa and the local Mount Isa community.

As one of seven entrants in the year-long campaign, Ms Sewell said she chose to raise funds for PCYC Mount Isa because its programs and services assist with building a safer, healthier community through positive youth development.

“I am passionate about youth development,” said Ms Sewell. “The rodeo had the ability to bring all community members together and Isa Queen Quest is a great platform to promote community safety and to strengthen my relationships with my community,” she said.

Enlisting the help of volunteers to assist her at fundraising events, Aimee’s growing number of followers were dubbed ‘Aimee’s Army’! Over 80 community members helped run the fundraising activities, which included cyber safety presentations, raffles, community discos, movie plus trivia nights, being a buck’s party driver to reduce drink driving and even a 24-hour exercise challenge!

“Aimee has achieved a remarkable result for the local Mount Isa community, and we are thrilled and truly thankful for the work and effort that has gone into her campaign promoting PCYC Queensland,” she said.

Our very lucky PCYC Lottery winners!Congratulations to one of our recent and very lucky PCYC Lottery winners and long-time supporters, Carol. Carol has been a VIP supporter of PCYC Queensland for a number of years through the PCYC Lottery and is especially grateful for PCYC Queensland staff, volunteers and the Queensland Police Service officers who are helping build safer, healthier communities through youth development.

Carol’s granddaughter, Taylah-Marie, is now involved in PCYC Queensland and loves being able to make friends while engaging in a number of programs and activities that help her build confidence in performing for her school drama classes. As a third generation PCYC Queensland member, Taylah-Marie loves going to her local PCYC Club. She recommends other young people just ‘go for it and get involved’.

Congratulations again to our very lucky winners!
