Age Connects Morgannwg, South Wales Police, Rhondda 50+ Forum along with

other Partners, supported by a successful bid to the ICF Community Capacity Fund,

are organising a Community Road Safety Campaign in the areas of Ystrad, Pentre,

Ton Pentre and Gelli following issues raised by older people and a 300 signature

strong petition on road safety concerns in the area from residents. Following the

initial successful campaign in Ystrad and Pentre early this year, we plan to revisit

these areas but also the additional areas where problems have been raised.

Although the concerns have been presented by older residents, we feel that the

problems of speeding and failing to stop at Pelican and Pedestrian Crossings, and

general road safety affect the community as a whole, and therefore we are working

with local Councillors, Communities First, local schools and the wider community to

address the issues and raise awareness of the consequences.

We will be holding a week long Community Road Safety Campaign from 23rd – 27th November 2015, with various events, information talks and workshops during the week at various locations. A more detailed itinerary will be available in mid November.

________________________________________________________________ Community Action Research post available within Interlink:

To help recruit and work with young and older people to collect and record people’s experiences and use the information collected for action research. The aim is to encourage communities to work with colleagues, community and voluntary organisations and other partners to take action. Specifically this involves collecting and using the experiences or stories from young and older people using a tool called SenseMaker. For further information click HERE

Drink Wise Age Well is a project aimed at promoting and encouraging a healthy relationship with alcohol to the over 50’s age group living in the Cwm Taff area. The programme is directed at the over 50’s (but not necessarily to people who drink alcohol) and consists of a three tier strand of assistance incorporating Direct Engagement, Prevention and Resilience. Community Coordinators at Flu Clinics Thanks to all the Practices that responded, and so far we have attended 57 Flu Clinics at 34 surgeries. During clinics we have spoken to over 1000 patients and taken many enquiries for information and signposting for support. Please let me know if your Practice has more Flu Clinics in November, in order that we can arrange to attend these too. The following 3rd Sector organisations have also attended clinics alongside Coordinators, raising awareness of their services and speaking directly to patients:- The Royal Voluntary Service, British Red Cross, Speakeasy (Fuel Poverty), Alzheimer's Society, Drink Wise, Age Well, Rowan Tree Cancer Care, Age Connects Morgannwg and Welcome Friends.

The feedback from these organisations has been positive saying that having a presence at GP Practices is worthwhile for them, and that they would like more opportunities to engage with Practices and patients. I will be contacting Practices over the coming months to make arrangements to attend clinics at busy times, but in the meantime if you would like a particular 3rd Sector organisation to spend time at your Practice supporting your patients, then please let me know. ___________________________________________________________________ “Myth Busting “- working within communities to try to help increase the take-up of the flu jab and other immunisations.
