As an Act 2 member you are invited to join in for a fun night at Pinehurst Country Club. You do not need to be a member of Pinehurst Country Club, just a paid up member of Act 2, to join us on March 13th. We'll set aside a couple of tables for Act 2 members. This rate guarantees the best available Section A seating, regularly priced at $50. Summer and Fall Blooming Bulbs

On Thursday March 27 the Sandhills Horticultural Society will have a program to help gardeners welcome back the Spring season – what you need to know about summer and fall blooming bulbs.

There is a lot more to bulbs than the ones planted in the fall – tulips and daffodils. CCNC Horticulturalist Hilarie Blevins will guide us through the selection, planting and care of summer and fall blooming bulbs. Varieties of bulbs like, caladiums, rain lily, lycoris and others will be discussed. This Sandhills Horticultural Society program will be held at the Sandhills Community College Horticultural Gardens, Ball Visitors Center 10AM to 11:30AM, Thursday March 27. Some of the bulb varieties discussed will be available at the Society Plant Sale on April 12. Make your reservation by calling 910-695-3882. Horticultural Society Members $5, Non-members $10.

The Sandhills Horticultural Society will hold its spring plant sale from 8 AM to noon. Perennials, woody plants and daffodils will be for sale at the new horticultural building area (Steed Hall) of Sandhills Community College. For information or to per-order call 910-695-3882.

SCC’s Landscape Gardening Students Hold Plant Sale April 25-26th

The students in the Landscape Gardening program at Sandhills Community College are currently taking orders for spring bedding plants. Marigolds, petunias, begonias, vincas, herbs, tomatoes, peppers, sweet potato vines and ornamental grass will be sold to help fund the student’s educational field trips. All plants were grown and maintained by students.

An order form can be found on the college’s website and pre-orders will be taken until April 17. Plants will be available for pick-up and can be paid for on April 25 and 26 at Steed Hall.

2014 APPETITE FOR ART RETURNS WITH EVEN

MORE FUN!

It’s out and about—the new 2014 Appetite for Art brochure has been mailed and is

ready for celebration and your participation! Since being introduced in 2006, this

fundraising program has raised over $100,000 for the programs and services of the

Arts Council of Moore County.

Appetite for Art is a special program that features parties hosted by generous individuals and

businesses. Partygoers can choose to attend the party according to their own interests. The fun

program offers many great opportunities to meet new people in a variety of settings with the

ultimate goal of supporting your Arts Council.

Connie Petrillo, Appetite for Art co-chair, reports that the 2014 calendar is really exciting and

includes a variety of outstanding private dinner parties, lunches, art classes, and a tennis party.

Here are just a few of the Appetite for Art parties offered in 2014:

“Color with a Twist” on March 20 and hosted by Millicent Moats, ASID and Village Design

Group. Want to make a statement? Create a mood? Communicate joy? Grab attention? You can

do all this through the world of COLOR! Led by VDG interior designer Millicent Moats and using

Village Design Group’s large showroom library, you will have the opportunity to put together

fabrics, carpet and paint samples and accessories that tell the story of style that appeals to you

and your lifestyle. Limited to 20 guests; $25 per person.

“Breakfast at Tiffany's...Talbots” on April 2 and hosted by Nina Edmonson, Jeannie

Haskell, Connie Petrillo and Talbots. A Brunch menu with hot & cold entrees provided by The

Fresh Market and Panera Bread, plus Mimosas to be enjoyed while enjoying Talbots new fashions

for the spring season! Limited to 35 guests; $25 per person.

“Run for the Roses – A Kentucky Derby Party” on May 3 and hosted by Sue Hammer, Anne

Holmes, Dian Moore, and Connie Petrillo. Put on your fancy hat and smashing duds and be

part of the Churchill Downs crowd. Share the experience of the Run for the Roses while enjoying

Mint Juleps, wine and all kinds of Southern fare. Limited to 50 guests; $35 per person.

“Follow the Leader Oil Painting Class” on May 6 hosted by Joan Williams. Have you ever

wanted to try your hand at painting? Well, this is the class for you! The class is for beginners or

advanced. All materials provided. Plan to have a lot of fun and go home with a completed

painting…by YOU! Bring a brown bag lunch—Dessert and beverage provided. Limited to 12

budding artists; $75 per person.

“Young Children’s Art Exhibit & Tea Party” on May 10 hosted by Ginger & Janie Monroe

and Rebecca & C.J. Dunn (Rain date: May 11). Here’s a chance for your child to display his

or her artwork in the beautiful setting of the Campbell House Gardens for family, friends, and

neighbors to see. Once registered, you will receive an invitation that will include an 11” x 20”

canvas on which for your child to create a work of art. On May 10th, bring your child’s artwork to

be displayed in the gardens behind the Campbell House in a special art exhibit. We will then host

a tea party in honor of Mother’s Day. $15 per child.

“Sip & Paint with Artist Jane Casnellie” on May 11 hosted by Jane Casnellie. Ever wanted

to try your hand at painting but don’t know where to begin? No need to worry about lack of

experience, Jane Casnellie, artist and owner of Hollyhocks Arts Gallery, will lead the group step

by step in an easy, creative and fun way to complete your own masterpiece while sipping fine

wine, courtesy of Elliott’s on Linden. Limited to 10 budding artists; $40 per person.

“Tennis ‘n Tartes IX” on September 9 hosted by Carolyn Alli, Helen Brissette, Jane George,

Nancy Hasbrouck, Connie Petrillo (chair), Myrna Spencer, Helen Walsh and Matt Downing

(Pinehurst Tennis Director). Check in and coffee begins at the Tennis Center followed by Round

Robin Tennis on the courts of Pinehurst. Following, all participants will proceed to the new

Veranda of the Pinehurst Country Club, which overlooks the 18th hole of course No. 2. Here you

will enjoy a delectable buffet luncheon with tartes, of course!! A cash bar will be available. A

program with prizes will follow the luncheon, completing a perfect morning and afternoon in

Pinehurst. If you're not a tennis player, you can still join us for just the luncheon. $25 per person.

With prices ranging from $15 to $100 per person, there is something for everybody, but sign up

soon because these parties sell out quickly.

The proceeds from Appetite for Art benefit the Arts Council of Moore County whose mission is to

support, promote, and develop arts and arts education throughout Moore County. In addition to

operating the Campbell House Galleries, the Arts Council offers an extensive series of arts

programs for children and young adults; presents the popular Classical Concert Series at the

Sunrise Theater; presents world-class jazz performers at the Heart ‘n Soul of Jazz at Pinehurst

Resort; awards grants to Moore County organizations and schools for arts-related projects; and

provides scholarships to middle and high school students for arts-related programs.
