Event Advice
• Invest time in good directions and berry markers (upset and lost = can’t listen)
• Use link directing to Meetup for all RSVPs (more Meetup members, they promote you)
• Email RSVPs – increment your guest count; Pre‐populate subject line if possible
• Save Reviews into a file as fuel for your team• Post graduate only events on Meetup as a carrot, but don’t announce (sending direct email to grads)
2424
Event Locations
• Good for public and graduate‐only events• Look for no cost and low‐cost locations
– Location type will dictate ability to “sell”• Example locations include:
– Restaurant back rooms– Libraries– Apartment community party rooms– Business conference/break rooms– Community members’ homes (graduates only)
2525
Strategies• Teach for other Groups – everyone wants a free speaker!
• Join Large Meetup Groups ‐ Urban Mosaic, Dallas Christian Singles, Divorced Groups, Mankind Project
• Local women in business groups, Networking groups• Suggesting a MeetUp to Another Group• Sign up for the affiliate program and tell people about it
• Start emailing friends to invite them to the events• Talk about your events on social media• Create Facebook events but point to meetup for RSVP
2626
Dealing with problemsand online comments
Always Emphasize That You Are Volunteers• Lara’s experiences as Communication Chair• Facebook Guidelines
How to Handle Bad Reviews:• They are okay. Don't remove them unless they are really bad.• If you only have good reviews, then people suspect you have
removed some.• If you leave some bad ones, they trust the ratings more. It makes
the group look "real" if there are some neutral ones sprinkled in. • Besides, authenticity is a very attractive quality, right? :)
2727
• Dallas uses Meetup as our primary presence on the Internet.
• Enter www.UnderstandMenDallas.cominto browser and it redirects to our Meetup group.
2828
• Meetup has been instrumental to our success in Dallas ‐ 650+ members!• Must have local events or you get deleted• Must have free events ‐ can’t just be Making Sense of Men• Has great SEO potential• Categories to be listed under – Self Improvement – Dating – Personal
Growth…… and many more!• About Us Section – invest your time here

Meetup Advice
• Don’t make any fields required• Always greet new members• ALWAYS have someone else proofread
before posting • Leave plenty of white space since people
read on their phones• Schedule events so the calendar looks full
but plan when to press announce button (best time / # per day).
• Starter RSVPs ‐ no one wants to attend an event with only 5 people. Add hosts
• Extra RSVPs for walk‐ins and review • Directions ‐ Invest effort in good
directions – Avoid an upset cavewoman who gets lost = can't learn
• Take a moment to zoom into Google to list food options close ‐they get to you and then eat, less likely to be late.
• Add a phone number while building• Plan when to press “announce” button• Graduate Only Events –
– Add Graduate Only Events in to the MeetUp Calendar as a carrot to register.
– DO NOT PUT LOCATION. Send the location details only through email or someone may show up to the event because they did not read the description closely.
3030
Meetup Advice
• Meetup automatically sends a rating email to all people who RSVP’d to event
• Have your leadership team always rate the event to boost ratings
• Have leadership team click on the ‘Nice to see you button’
• Group members will receive emails from Meetup unless THEY change their profile settings.
• Meetup sends out 3 types of email: AnnouncementReminder in 7 daysReminder for next day
• Important to plan around these emails from Meetup
• Special usesCustom listsActive or Inactive membersLeadership teamRelated to specific Meetup event
• Public events announce event turn reminders on
• Graduate eventsdo NOT announce the eventTurn reminders OFF

Emails
3434
Email Communication Plan
35
• Try to send at 2pm or 10am (avoid morning and after lunch mass delete)
• Send limit of 1 email per day• Meetup sends 3 emails per event (Announce, 7 day reminder,
1 day reminder)• Public Events – send Announce and Reminder• Graduate Only Event – Send an announce and reminder only,
don’t announce on Meetup, turn reminders off• Too many emails could cause leaving or unsubscribing
35
Email Lists
36
• Need to keep separate email lists for –PAX Graduates–Non‐graduate women–Men
36
Email Communication Tips
• Write communications for men since most women are masculine (i.e. to the point)
• Write to appeal to the widest audience• Since connection = safety, have a friendly person manage
the emails who can reply to all comments• Always write in spirit of Warm, Friendly, Nice –
say “Hi __,” and “Have a great day!”• Reply to all emails even if it’s just a “Thanks!”• Scripts / Templates you can copy and paste to save time
