Riwayat cinema’iya is a documentary that gives voice to those who shape Lebanese cinema today. Their testimonies shed a precious light and build a striking depiction of what Lebanese cinema is today. Through this 45 minutes production, Rawiya’s team questioned these figures on the reasons behind their commitment to cinema, their cinematographic influences and their hopes, expectations and disappointments. Stemmed from twelve singular conversations, Riwayat cinema’iya gives shape to cinematographic stories from Lebanon. This documentary urges the audience to initiate a necessary reflection on cinema’s future. Rawiya Éditions in a few words Rawiya Éditions was founded in February 2012, the child of two book lovers, Patricia Elias and Dima Samaha. Their paths in publishing and literature brought them together for a new project: bring into existence books they would like to see on their bookshelves. Rawiya’s identity is defined by a desire to publish books deemed necessary, giving the book new functions. As publishing unfolds, Rawiya will push for archives and unpublished documents, visuals and dialogues, never presented to the public before. Living testimonies of history and artistic expression, these documents have deeply marked the collective Arab imaginary of numerous generations. Our catalog is directed at a large readership, bilingual or trilingual. Rawiya publishes in Arabic, French, and English. Riwayat cinema’iya est un documentaire qui donne la voix à celles et ceux qui font le cinéma libanais aujourd’hui, autant de personnalités dont les témoignages apportent un éclairage précieux et dressent un portrait saisissant du cinéma libanais actuel. À travers ce moyen-métrage de 45 minutes, l’équipe de Rawiya a voulu questionner les intervenants de ce cinéma sur les raisons qui les ont poussés à se lancer dans cette aventure, sur leurs influences cinématographiques et sur leurs espoirs, leurs attentes et leurs déceptions. Issue d’une douzaine de conversations singulières, Riwayat cinema’iya, donne une forme aux histoires cinématographiques du Liban. She started a career in advertising but, determined to follow her passion, she soon left to attend Le Cordon Bleu in London, where she also worked at several upscale restaurants. She later spent some time taking writing courses in New York City. In 2016, Lara released her first cookbook, Levantine Harvest. She currently resides in Beirut, where she runs her own boutique catering kitchen.

One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s land présente des photographies aériennes du Liban prises par drone et qui donnent à voir une diversité étonnante de paysages sous des aspects peu connus. À travers cet ouvrage, le lecteur découvre un pays « autre », éloigné des clichés véhiculés par les photos de guerre ou de vacances, dont la richesse se trouve dans une rencontre souvent décalée entre une nature sauvage, une urbanisation galopante, des ruines livrées à elles-mêmes. En ressortent des images atypiques, des géométries variables, des villes, des villages, des ports, des vallées, des montagnes, méconnaissables. Au-delà de la valeur artistique de ces photos, certaines primées internationalement, c‘est avant tout un regard curieux, amoureux, aventurier pour un pays qui ne cesse d’étonner et de se dévoiler nouveau avec chaque cliché, que le lecteur découvrira.
Le livre de Elio Sassine cache également un autre engagement, toujours pour le Liban : celui de venir en aide aux enfants touchés par la guerre.

Elio Sassine est avant tout psychiatre, co-fon-dateur et vice président de l’Association pour la Protection de l’Enfant de la Guerre (APEG). En cette qualité, il œuvre depuis maintenant plus de 25 ans, aux côtés de professionnels de la santé mentale, pour que toujours plus d’enfants et d’adultes aient accès aux soins, aux consultations, aux cliniques.
Elio Sassine pratique la photographie aérienne au moyen de drones depuis plusieurs années. Ses sujets de prédilection sont les ruines et les paysages à caractère abstrait. Ses photos ont été publiées dans des magazines, des livres et des sites mondialement reconnus. Il a récemment été lauréat du concours « Vue d’en haut/Frontières » à l’Espace photogra-phique Arthur Batut en France.
l’APEG : l’association pour la protection de l’enfant de la guerre
Fondés en 1996, les centres médico-psychologiques de l’As-sociation pour la protection de l’enfant de la guerre (APEG) ont été créés à la suite du bombar-dement israélien de Cana au Sud Liban pour venir au secours des enfants qui avaient perdu plusieurs membres de leur famille.
Au fil des années, les centres se sont transformés en dispen-saires de santé mentale, les actions menées au Liban auprès de la population défavorisée étant pratiquement inexistantes dans ce secteur.
En chiffres, l’APEG c’est :• 9100 enfants et adultes pris
en charge pour toutes sortes de pathologies, entre le 1er décembre 1998 et le 31 juillet 2018.
• 64 500 consultations effectuées.
• 700 enfants et adolescents signalés par les juges des mineurs, pour des cas de maltraitance, d’inceste et d’abus sexuels.
En 2008, la France a récompensé l’APEG du « Prix des Droits de l’homme de la République française ».

Le timbre, petit bout de papier d’une grande importance aux yeux des philatélistes, voit le jour en Angleterre en 1840. Solution postale et fiscale révolutionnaire, il est adopté progressivement par le reste du monde. Ce livre présente tous les timbres émis au Liban depuis 1919. Regroupés par séries d’émission, les timbres ont été reproduits à l’échelle 1/1, et sont accompagnés pour chaque année d’anecdotes philatéliques, historiques ou littéraires. “Le collectionneur est une personne qui se suffit à elle-même, et qui, une fois atteinte du virus, met difficilement fin à sa passion. Quoi qu’il collectionne, ceci est surtout une initiative personnelle, un loisir qui se développe et grandit avec la personne et ses centres d’intérêt. Un collectionneur est une personne qui se retrouve dans son propre monde tous les jours, donnant vie à ses propres objets qui peuvent parfois être sa seule et unique compagnie.”
Abdo Ayoub.
Né à Beyrouth, Liban, en 1944, Abdo Ayoub, en plus d’être billetophile et passionné d’histoire, est un philatéliste assidu, collectionneur et numismate. Il s’intéresse en 1992 au « billet libanais », autour duquel il mène une recherche approfondie en vue d’une reconstitution des archives inexistantes de la monnaie nationale. Il parviendra ainsi à constituer une des plus belles collections de la Livre libanaise de ses origines en 1919 à nos jours et publiera en 2004 La monnaie du Liban, Spécial collectionneurs. À l’âge de 15 ans, il commence à s’intéresser à la philatélie, et c’est durant la guerre civile libanaise, qu’il rendra sa collection plus solide et complète. En 2014, Abdo Ayoub est élu président de l’Association libanaise de philatélie, auprès de Billy Karam, vice-président, et de Bernardo Longo, secrétaire général, ainsi que d’autres prestigieux membres de cette association qui œuvre pour la promotion du timbre au Liban sous tous ses aspects.

LE LIVRE Partant de 1897, date à laquelle Alexandre Promio réalise le premier film jamais tourné au Liban pour le compte des Frères Lumière, et s’étendant jusqu’à l’année 2015, Le Cinéma au Liban retrace une tumultueuse histoire. Cet ouvrage bilingue propose une exploration en profondeur du sujet, s’appuyant sur une large sélection iconographique, onze conversations menées avec des personnalités clefs de l’industrie cinématographique - réalisateurs, producteurs, comédiens, exploitants de salles -, et une riche filmographie. Avec ce livre, Raphaël Millet réécrit l’histoire du cinéma au Liban dans le contexte plus large de l’histoire filmique. L’auteur nous fait chronologiquement découvrir les premiers temps, l’Âge d’Or, la période de la guerre et celle de l’après-guerre, mettant en lumière la détermination et l’ingéniosité de cette industrie qui a su résister, survivre et se renouveler. S’adressant à un large lectorat allant du grand public aux spécialistes, Le Cinéma au Liban propose des analyses de films détaillées, une remise en contexte essentielle et un accès à des archives visuelles exclusives. L’AUTEUR Raphaël Millet a enseigné le cinéma à l’Université Paris III Sorbonne-Nouvelle ainsi qu’à l’École supérieure d’études cinématographiques (ESEC-AIA), à Paris. Il a aussi abordé de nombreux sujets ayant trait aux cinémas français, africains, méditerranéens, moyen-orientaux et asiatiques dans des livres, articles et conférences depuis le milieu des années 1990, écrivant pour des revues telles que Positif, Trafic, Cinémathèque, Simulacres, Qantara et BiblioAsia. Il a également publié différents ouvrages tels que Cinémas de la Méditerranée, cinémas de la mélancolie (L'Harmattan, 2002), Le Cinéma de Singapour (L'Harmattan, 2004) et Singapore Cinema (EDM, 2006).

The choice was rather obvious given Lara’s Lebanese roots and her appreciation for fresh fruits and harvest, and the balanced food that abound in the Levantine cuisine. The topic of Levantine Cuisine being wide, Lara chose to tackle it from a specific angle — that of seasons. Furthermore, Lara’s extensive study of Levantine recipes led her to realize that recipes are written in complex steps and language that need an update that speaks to the modern lifestyle. Hence, in addition to the seasons, Lara decided on simplicity. !

Lara grew up in a home where there is far more to food than the obvious nourishment; there is an appreciation for its existence and influence in our lives. She believes cooking is accessible and frank. A meal doesn't have to be fancy and elaborate to look and taste amazing. The simplest recipes executed in the right way make for food that is quite simply divine. She likes honest recipes that don't deceive or disappoint. Whether improvised, imagined, or shared, her recipes are meant to make her readers' adventures in the kitchen more fun. Lara Ariss started a career in Advertising but shortly after decided to drop out from the corporate world and follow her passion. Lara is a Le Cordon Bleu certified Chef from London. While in London, Lara worked at upscale European restaurants. She spent some time in New York City taking writing courses, where she has had countless culinary adventures.

Seeing Raya and Anthony cooking a holiday turkey is quite a fun and loud experience. Jokingly bickering about who is the better cook, they make it a point of honour to always perfect their recipe.”
Pascale Habis was born in Lebanon. After a childhood in England, she studies in Beirut and begins her career as a graphic designer in the advertising community: a venture in marketing leads her to decorating projects and selling design objects, which help her launch a museum boutique. Beirut Cooks is her first book. In it, she celebrates gourmet walks, flavours, and the upsides of good produce and hearty meals with friends. Beirut Cooks also reflects her taste for aesthetics, graphic design, photography, paper and books. Pascale is married and has two children.
