Preface
i-USEr 2018 (International Conference on User Science and Engineering) is a biennialconference that began its journey as a brainchild of a group of HCI enthusiasts andresearchers from the Universiti Teknologi MARA Malaysia. It serves as a platform forpractitioners and researchers from academia, industry, and government agencies toshare their research insights and innovations within the field of human–computerinteraction (HCI) and user experience (UX).
This year’s conference celebrated the growth of the HCI field, which traversedacross disciplines and technological aspects encompassing both tangible and intangibleelements. The papers this year illustrate how HCI is inclusive and omnipresent withinthe domains of informatics, Internet of Everywhere, quality of life and others, more sowith a diverse range of users and possibilities. The discussions brought forth by thepapers further prove that the marriage between HCI and various application domainshas resulted in a variety of user requirements, needs, and experiences, converting toever-changing symbiotic conditions. Hence, it is only fitting that this year’s theme was“Traverse for Diverse.”
This year, i-USEr received a high number of submissions. With a thoroughdouble-blind review process, 32 papers of high quality were selected for presentation asfull papers. This volume contains 32 full papers presented at i-USEr 2018.
To further celebrate i-USEr 2018, we invited globally recognized keynote speakersand organized workshops to give opportunities for participants to put traverse todiverse as a form of practice. We believe i-USEr 2018 could further position HCI as ahumane-technological-experience design and development strategy discipline but thiswould not be possible without the trust and participation of the authors who chosei-USEr 2018 as a venue for their publications. Some of the authors have been with ussince our infancy – thank you all for the support. Also, my utmost gratitude to thecommittee members for their unwavering commitment in ensuring i-USEr 2018 was asuccess.
We hope you find the proceedings compelling and thought-provoking, furtherinspiring ever more revolutionary research at the future. We hope to have your par-ticipation again at the next i-USEr 2020. Here’s to the future of human-centeredexperience. Let’s make it happen!
