Solving Student Government’s Challenge
Our Ignorant Student
He doesn’t know about student government
He doesn’t care about student government
But we can change this
• Original Challenge:• Increase
communication and feedback between the student body and student government
We thought that this wasn't enough, we
wanted to know why students weren't communicating?
• The routes of communication are really good
• The problem is that students just really don't know about student government
So how do we make students care about
student government?
• We need them to want to understand it
• The real challenge is increase not just student awareness, but student OWNERSHIP
The real challenge we face is making students take
ownership of student government, and to
make them take ownership of their
voices
Readdressing the Question

What We Focused On
Streamline many aspects of
the current state
Create a quicker, more user-friendly
interface
Promote the improvements
and allow better feedback
StreamliningRedundancyNo need to have the same links on both the top and side of the website.
Simplify Organization ChartGive a general outline to let students know where power goes.
Streamlining
Division of EventsClearly separate one event from the other through uniform headlines.
Facebook/Twitter LinkGive a quick link to tweet or share the event with one click.
Streamlining
FeedbackReduce hassle by giving a comment box on blackboard. Just type your question and send it.
HierarchyGive more important events more page space rather than a jumbled news feed.
Revisiting A Solution
Getting Information•A program that would
link in with emails•Tells you who got the
mail, who opened the mail, and when they got it
Reaching a Demographic•A program that would
recognize an inventory of student information
Writing the Program•We are not
programmers•Locate a group of
programmers who could execute the design
Communication Improvement
• Following the outlined procedures we believe communication would improve
• Students would begin to see the benefits of student government has
• Associate the benefits with the marketing
The Final Result
By educating the student body through an awareness campaign and by streamlining the process of communication, our student learns the benefits of student government and engages with them in a successful way now.
Prototyping the Solution
• Tested out with the Comm 2 LC
• Didn’t know about student government—they were part of the original survey
• Liked the ideas and expressed interest in seeing these implemented across campus
