Communication and messagingThe main task of an effective alarm system is notification of a detected threat. For this reason, devices of the “communication and messaging” group play a very important role in the system, regardless of the technology used.

ApplicationsPossibilities of using the “communication and messaging” devices are very broad.

They can be used for personal notification of the people concerned, for information transfer to the agency implementing physical protection, as well as

for remote configuration and management of the alarm system.

In extended systems based on the INTEGRA control panels, requiring frequent remote management via the telephone line, it is advisable to use an external modem. It has a much higher transmission rate than the standard communicator built-in modem, which significantly increases user friendliness and saves a lot of time.

GSM/GPRSGSM/GPRS

GSM/GPRS communicatorsMobile communication definitely displaces the traditional telephone lines, becoming the most common form of communication. An increasing number of households abandon the landline, replacing it with mobile phones of family members. Digital services offered in mobile networks ideally match the needs of alarm systems. In addition to the normal calls with voice messaging, the SMS messages are perfectly suited for the personal notification. The control panel can use them to transmit brief, unambiguous information about the most important events in the system. On the other hand, the user can use SMS messages to control the alarm system, e.g. to disarm it or manage devices connected to it.

Functionality of some control panels provided with telephone communicators can be extended by means of additional modules. The most popular modules include voice synthesizers whose purpose is to play back a voice message informing the user about the selected event in the system.

Telephone communicators In terms of the technology employed, the simplest devices of this group are communicators using the traditional, wired telephone line. They provide all the basic functions, from voice messaging, through reporting in different formats, up to remote system programming by means of dial-up modems. In most SATEL control panels, communicators of this type are an integral part of the panel, so the user can enjoy the capabilities offered by them without the use of additional devices.

The module offered by SATEL provides also interactive control of the system through the voice menu. In this case, as in the widespread call center systems, you can select the desired option using the phone keys.

Comparison of modules

Owing to their well-thought-out design, the communicators can work with virtually any control panel – even coming from third-party manufacturers. The simplest communicators make it possible to use the basic ways of information transfer via SMS and GPRS.

More complex devices are equipped with a voice channel, so they can also be used as GSM phone gateways. The most sophisticated models offer the feature of supervision of wired phone line and, in the event of failure, its automatic switchover to GSM network.

GSM/GPRS communication can also be used in the alarm reporting, when transmitting the system status data to the monitoring station in a security agency. If the monitoring station is equipped with dedicated TCP/IP receivers, transmissions to it can also be sent using the GPRS service data connection.

In the case of INTEGRA control panel with TCP/IP communicator installed, remote programming of the control panel is possible

over the Internet, using the dedicated DLOADX program. The ETHM-1 Plus module also enables the INTEGRA system

to be remotely managed using the GUARDX administrator program and applications for mobile devices based

on iOS and Android systems.

Remote programmingand management

They not only efficiently transmit information to the monitoring station, but can also perform additional functions. They enable, for example, the system to be remotely controlled and managed from a laptop or even a smartphone. In addition, such communicators provide also the functionality of instant notification using e-mail messages, by means of which the user concerned may receive information about current events in the system.

In the case of video transmission, images from the protected area can be transfered directly to the monitoring agency through dedicated verification modules. In this way, the security personnel can obtain detailed information on the situation in the protected premises. Similarly, sending the real-time audio signal can help you identify the cause of the alarm, which in the long run may contribute to reducing the cost of unnecessary interventions.

Alarm verificationWhether the reported alarm was caused by an actual event requiring intervention or perhaps by malfunction of the system or a false alarm may be verified by means of advanced verification systems using video or audio signals.

... can also be used in large systems which require centralized management. Using the STAM-2 Pro monitoring station system, it is possible to remotely manage multiple INTEGRA systems equipped with TCP/IP communicators.

GSM / GPRS / TCP/IPUpServ – quick and easy firmware updates

Providing fast and safe delivery of the latest updates of communication module firmware in a way which is simple and convenient for the Installer – that was the goal SATEL’s engineers had in view when developing the latest product offered by the Company. Combination of their innovative ideas and modern technology resulted in creating the UpServ, a server for remote firmware update of SATEL manufactured products. It automates the update process, thus not only increasing the security of protected premises, but above all making much easier the maintenance of alarm systems.

The principle of UpServ operation is very simple. One of its components is a GSM/GPRS communication device. It connects to the IP address of the computer on which the firmware update server is installed. This communication can be initiated in two ways. The first one requires that a text message requesting update be sent from a mobile phone. After completion of the update, the acknowledgement is also transmitted as an SMS message to the phone number from which the initial message was sent. The second way is the module connecting automatically to the server at specified intervals to check for availability of a new firmware version. If an update is available, it will be immediately downloaded and installed.

Such a simple solution works well regardless of the size and extension degree of the installed system which incorporates the module. Using the UpServ gives many advantages, of which the following should be mentioned: enormous time saving, minimization of the Installer’s prime costs and simplification of the service and maintenance by automating the update process. The product range offered by SATEL includes a number of GSM/GPRS communication devices which provide the option of remote update via the UpServ. These are the GPRS-T1, GPRS-T2, GPRS-T4, GPRS-T6, GSM LT-1, GSM LT-2, GSM-4 and GSM-5 communication modules, as well as the MICRA alarm module.

25 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

Professional protection of each type of premises, as well as people staying therein, through advanced, yet functional and cost-ef-fective solutions – these few words may serve as the shortest description of the mission of SATEL, a manufacturer of security systems with involvement of 100% Polish capital. Due to integrity in business and a special emphasis on high quality and a wide range of products offered, the SATEL brand has been highly appreciated in the industry for 25 years.

This philosophy of management and hard work of more than 280 SATEL’s employees produce tangible results. The wide range of over 400 offered products provides countless opportunities to create security, home automation, fire alarm, access control and monitoring systems, tailored to the individual needs of each user. At the same time, these systems meet all requirements prescribed by Polish and international regulations and industry standards.

Bringing the functionality of devices into line with current require-ments and expectations of the market with the use of the latest technologies is one of the main objectives of SATEL. For this reason the design and production departments of the Company are con-tinuously being modernized and expanded. A natural consequence of all actions aimed at the production of top-quality devices was the introduction of the quality management system conforming to ISO 9001:2000 in 2002. Regardless of this certification, SATEL also carries out a full functional test of all products leaving the production line, thus ensuring reliability of the manufactured devices. Focusing on modern design and attaching importance to the highest levels of quality and functionality of its products, SATEL has gained many satisfied customers not only in Poland but also in more than 50 markets worldwide.
