Phillips Head Screwdriver

• Hand Tool• Used to tighten screws

with a Phillips Head (star shaped)

Carpenters Level

• Used to ensure that a surface is level.

• To use, make sure the “bubble” in the water is between the lines

Combination Square• Direct measuring tool• Measures

– 90 degrees– Inches or metric

• Checks a surface for straightness or correspondence to an adjoining surface

• Primary use is to measure the accuracy of a right angle

Framing Square• Direct measuring tool• Wide, long member called the

Blade• Narrow, short member called the

tongue• Makes a right angle• On the back :

– the outer edge the measurement is in inches and 1/12”

– The inner edge of the tongue is inches and 1/10th

– Inner edge of the blade is inches and 1/32”

• On the front the inch is in carpenter’s units of 1/8 or 1/16th

• Used to find the length of the hypotenuse of a right triangle like determining the length of a roof rafter

Sliding T-Bevel

• Indirect measuring tool• Adjustable for setting

and transferring angles• Normally is used with a

protractor• Gets its name for the

shape it makes and how it moves

Try Square

• A carpenter's tool consisting of a ruled metal straightedge set at right angles to a straight piece

• Used for measuring and marking square work.

• Used to measure and layout various angles

• Similar to the Combination Square

Flat Head Screwdriver

• Hand Tool• Used for tightening Flat

Countersinks• Creates a hole in the material

deep enough to allow the head of the screw to be flush with the material surface

Twist Drill Bit

• A twist drill bit is a metallic cylinder with helical grooves that spiral up the bit.

• Used to create holes for pilot holes, screws and other fasteners

Quick Grips

• Used to secure material to the work area

• Prevents materials from moving while working

Sandpaper

• Used to smooth down rough surfaces.

• Available in different “grit” sizes. – The smaller the grit, the

rougher the finish

Measuring Square

• A small triangle-shaped square with a flanged edge for butting against the edge of a work

• Piece to draw 90-degree or 45-degree angles.

• It has different angle measurements marked on its surface and edges.

Forstner Bits

• Used with drill presses or hand drills to make holes in woods, plastics, and metals.
