Starting from the initiative taken by the ERP PMO to facilitate

decision making through analytics, also known as Business

Intelligence (BI), to winning the Best Presented Annual Reports

Award 2015 from the South Asian Federation of Accountants, BSRM

is achieving one success after another. The highlight for BSRM was

the generous participation in the International Golf Tournament

“Chittagong Open 2017” held at Bhatiyari Golf & Country Club

(BGCC), as an esteemed Co-Sponsor. Ace golfer, Md Siddikur

Rahman of Bangladesh featured in this tournament among 126

other golfers from home and abroad. Furthermore the nomination of

Mr. Aameir AliHussain, Honorable Managing Director, BSRM Group

of Companies, as a Commercially Important Person (CIP) by the

Ministry of Industry, Peoples Republic of Bangladesh, added to our

joy and pride.

AO & ERP PMO has always put empowerment through information on the changing front for BSRM Group. The introduction of 2010 HR Initiative and the 2014 Oracle eBS ERP initiative have been steps towards achieving this objective.

In 2016, several additional initiatives were undertaken including:

a) Bringing SML & Wires Epoxy Coating online on Oracle eBS

b) Initiating the steps to bring Steels-2 Mirsarai under Oracle eBS

c) Taking steps to automate quality & material balancing data collection through PLC Level I & II Automation

d) Enabling change in fiscal year calendar to July-June and Fixed Assets Books for change in depreciation

e) Implementing in-house changes including Operating Units Creation, Reports, Lingering Issue Resolution, Process Re-engineering & Mobility Solutions to name a few

f) Building new capacity & continuation of enhancing the capacity of Corporate IT to provide 100% support and undertake R&D

Towards the end of 2016, ERP PMO took the next steps to facilitate decision-making through analytics called Business Intelligence (BI).

Change management ties all these efforts together and AO welcomes any & all continuous improvement opportunity ideas from BSRM Stakeholders.

Ruhi Murshid Ahmed, Head of CSR, PR & Communication of BSRM Group of Companies has been included in the global list of 100 Impactful CSR Leaders for 2017, chosen from 132 countries by Global CSR Congress.

The selection involves an intense research process undertaken by the research cell which consists of Postgraduates in History & Management. The shortlist is then reviewed by a Jury comprising of senior professionals from across the globe.

This is an acknowledgement of BSRM’s investment in meaningful and true development of lives of the unfortunate.

On March 27, 2017, in partnership with Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) and Ahsania Mission Cancer and General Hospital (AMCGH), BSRM Foundation Medical Center (BFMC) has launched “tele-medicine” service using Information and communication technology (ICT) to serve the patients of Mirsherai who do not have the means to go to the capital or major cities and consult renowned doctors.

Patients discussed their physical problems with Dr. Syed Mohammad Ali Romel, Consultant-Medicine & Rheumatology, through Skype. Although the he was sitting in Dhaka, he could still thoroughly check up and diagnose the patients with the help of BFMC Dr. Shahin, who prepared the prescriptions as dictated - follow up calls will be made as per specialist advice.

Under this programme BSRM and DAM will coordinate and develop a panel of doctors from different medical disciplines to help the underprivileged to have access to improved Healthcare Service at fair prices. Dr. M. Ehsanur Rahman, ED of DAM, Brigadier General Syed Fazle Rahim, MD of AMCGH, BSRM and DAM members were present at the event held at BFMC center, Mirsherai.

Best Presented Annual Report & Corporate Governance Disclosures Anniversary Award 2015The committee for improvement in Transparency, Accountability and Governance at the South Asian Federation of Accountants on the 27th of January 2017 awarded a Certificate of Merit to BSRM Steels Limited, for winning the Best Presented Annual Report Award and the Corporate Governance Disclosures Anniversary Award in the manufacturing sector category for 2015.

It is a matter of pride for BSRM that Mr. Mohammad Reazul Kabir FCA, Head of Finance & Accounts has been elected Chairman of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh (Chittagong Regional Committee). CONGRATULATIONS

We all know how hard it can be to follow along on a conference call. The challenge is compounded on multinational teams that deal with language barriers. When facilitating a virtual meeting, it’s your job to make sure everyone fully understands what’s going on. Compensate for any language differences by acting as a moderator. After each comment or question, briefly paraphrase what was said. For example, you might say: “That’s an important question. I agree that the production facility’s capacity is a major risk in this plan. Here’s what we know…” Or you can summarize a comment: “So, in your experience, this research technique requires a lot of resources, maybe more than we have. What does everyone else think about that?” These summaries may slow down your meeting, but making sure everyone understands the discussion will save you time in the long run.

BSRM is associated as the co-sponsor in an International

golf tournament “Chittagong Open 2017” held at Bhatiyari

Golf & Country Club(BGCC), one of the scenic golf courses of

the country. The tournament was inaugurated on 29th March

and concluded through an auspicious ceremony. Major

General Md. Jahangir Kabir Talukder, SUP, awc, psc, and

BSRM Chairman Alihussain Akberali FCA were present at the

awards giving ceremony. The ace golfer Md. Siddikur

Rahman of Bangladesh played in this tournament, among

126 other golfers from home and abroad, and eventually

ended up lifting the title trophy. The tournament was

co-sanctioned by Bangladesh Professional Golfers

Association (BPGA), Professional Golf tour of India (PGTI) and

arranged by Riz Events. This tournament is PGTI’s second

event in Bangladesh this season, which is a reflection of the

country’s rising stature in the golfing world.

OUR PLANTS ALSOPRODUCE OXYGEN

A nation without a sustainable environment will not be safe in thenear future. It is only when the environment is safe that people can live better lives. Keeping

this in mind, BSRM has planted more than 10,000 trees in its factory surroundings.

BSRM, as part of its CSR programs has installed Briquette making factories in various locationsof the country in collaboration with the Ahsania Mission Foundation. Briquettes are a biofuel substitute

to wood, hence it saves trees from being cut down. This is how BSRM, being the leading steel producer ofthe country, is contributing toward maintaining ecological balance for a safer environment.
