The BC Cancer Agency’s Trev and Joyce Deeley Research Centre (Victoria, BC) is a world class cancer research facility specializing in cancer immunotherapy. We are seeking a Research Assistant II to help develop genetic engineering strategies to improve immune-based therapies for cancer treatment, with an aim to translate these technologies to clinical trials. Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and other members of the research team, the successful applicant will use molecular biology techniques to generate genetically modified T cells that specifically target cancer cells. Projects will involve the use of Chimeric Antigen Receptors and other state-of-the-art gene engineering approaches. The successful applicant will also be responsible for data management, general lab maintenance, and other duties as required. The ideal candidate will have experience in molecular biology and immunology techniques including: Gene cloning (DNA purification, PCR, agarose gel electrophoresis) Protein assays (acrylamide gel electrophoresis, Western blot) Gene engineering (retro/lentiviral vectors, CRISPR/Cas) Mammalian cell culture (T cells, tumor cell lines) T cell assays (cytotoxicity, flow cytometry, ELISPOT) Additionally, the successful applicant will have a Bachelor of Science degree in a related discipline such as Biology or Biochemistry, and a minimum of two years of recent related experience in a research laboratory. Research experience should include at least one year of molecular biology and mammalian cell culture. An understanding of immunology and/or cancer would be a key asset. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may also be considered. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a record of responsible decision making, and the ability to work well under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
