I am extremely proud of the partnership that our Montgomery County PoliceDepartment has developed with our community members. Police service continuesto evolve, with advances in technology, improved training and better equipment. Butat its core, a police department is only as good as its people and the response theygive and the trust that they build with the community they serve.

We are gratified that crime in general has decreased in our County over the pastseveral years, though be assured that we’ll continue to identify emerging crimetrends in our neighborhoods and target appropriate resources towards them.

On behalf of all the men and woman who have accepted the challenge of keeping ourCounty safe - Thank you to the residents of Montgomery County for your support.

-Chief Tom Manger

13+ Years Delivering to theWashington Metro Area!

Not All Furnitureis Created Equal...

Country Home Furniture is open Monday and Friday 10-7,Tuesday through Thursday 10-5, and Saturdays 9-5.

The entire complex at Shady Maple is closed on Sundays.

Located at the world famous Shady Maple Complex

Visitors coming to Lancaster County from the Washington Metro area love toexperience the serenity of days gone by. Part of this experience includes thedelicious foods of the area, and the handcrafted products of furniture artisans. One

place that offers both is the world famous Shady Maple complex. When Shady MapleSmorgasbord moved into a larger building across the parking lot more than a decade ago,the former restaurant building became home to one of the largest and best furniture storesin the Lancaster area, Country Home Furniture.

According to management, “We like to think we’re helping to preserve a little piece ofAmerica’s furniture-making history. Our craftsmen are steeped in tradition. They deeplycare about their work.” On two floors and 30,000 square feet of selling space in their retailstore, you will find eight manufacturers of American-made sofas and recliners, made in

North Carolina, Ohio and Mississippi, in addition to over 30 manufacturers of solid wooddining, bedroom, office, occasional and entertainment… and the area’s largest selection ofAmish furniture. The wood pieces come from American handcrafters and Amish buildersin Ohio, Indiana and right here in Lancaster County.

With hundreds of stylish products in traditional, transitional, modern and country lookson the floor, there is something for everyone. “Amish built furniture and quality go hand-in-hand. As far as American handcrafters in the hardwood and upholstery industries, their knack for getting their styles to mesh with today’s buyer is second to none. No onebuilds better, more stylish furniture than American furniture makers.”

Unlike other stores where your only choices of the style or color or wood is what you see,at Country Home Furniture you can have a hand in

every facet of your design. That’s the beauty of shopping there. Customers love theflexibility to have a piece made for them by selecting the wood, stain, hardware andfabric. “We sincerely encourage you to experience this for yourself. We love to give ourcustomers an opportunity to engage in the fascinating process of getting exactly what’swanted in the style, shape, size and color desired. It’s distinctive furniture, made for you, your way. It’s fun, and it’s easy to select what you want.”

Why shop now? “We have all kinds of special pricing deals and delivery specials goingon right now that we can pass along to our customers.” The retailer ships and delivers tocustomers’ homes and businesses all over the country.“Our following is not just the localcrowds from Lancaster, Berks and Chester. We are delivering furniture several days aweek to our customers in Maryland, Virginia and D.C.”

Rockville’s early history canbe traced topre-RevolutionaryWar,when thefirst inhabitantswere Piscataway Indians andwhite trap-pers.

WhenMontgomeryCountywas founded, the areawasfirst calledMontgomeryCourthouse. It alsowas knownasWilliamsburgh, afterprominent landownerWilliamPratherWilliams, whohired a surveyorin 1784 to lay outmuchof the town.

Butwhen the city’s area officiallywas entered into county land re-cords in 1803, the townwas calledRockville, perhaps taking its namefromRockCreek, somehistorians say.

The city’s crest calls it the city“built upona rock.”The arrival of theBaltimore andOhioRailroad in 1873 further enhanced growth, andthe community’s proximity toWashington,D.C., brought summertourists andpermanent residents.

At the turnof the 20th century, more than1,000people lived inRockville. A largepost-WorldWar II housingboombrought thousandsof people toRockville. Two largemixed-use communities, King Farmin the city’s northern reaches, andFallsgrove in thenortheastern sec-tionof the city, have added thousandsmore in thepast decade.

Today it is a diverse communitywith quiet neighborhoods, abustling retail corridor alongRockville Pike, newand continuingcommercial and residential development in its downtowncore, andresidents of all walks of life.Thepopulationof Rockville is 61,209, ac-cording to the 2010 census.
