Dear Gordon,
Air Pollution from the Capitol Power Plant has for decades put the
health of the District of Columbia's residents at risk. The plant's
emissions had been reduced over the last several years as the facility
stopped burning coal. Now, however, the plant is proposing that it's
pollution limits be increased back to the levels they were before as
part of an effort to upgrade the plant and improve energy efficiency.
You have the opportunity to ensure that the reductions in air pollution
from the plant be made permanent. I ask you to reject the Capitol Power
Plant's application to increase it's emissions, in the name of energy
efficiency, to levels where they were previously. To do otherwise would
be a travesty.

Having a power plant in the middle of a city is not a great idea, and
if one exists, one should be kept as clean as is possible. Converting
the capitol power plant to gas was a great idea, but whatever it has as
output today should be kept as the baseline. Don't increase the toxic
emissions from a power plant that is directly next door to hundreds of
residents.

My son, Jacob, has asthma, and we live on Capitol Hill. His asthma
symptoms are correlated with the air pollution levels. He goes to Brent
Elementary School, near the Capitol Power Plant. Please give Jacob a
chance to grow and develop his lungs normally by not approving
pollution limits on the power plant based on the higher levels from
three years ago.

I am writing to urge that the EPA uphold the strictest possible
standards for clean air in D.C. and elsewhere. Like so many other
residents, I personally know that the health toll that breathing
unclear air can take, including asthma ,allergies, and other health
issues. The rates of asthma in cities is skyrocketing, and the allergy
levels keep rising, too.
One of the most alarming recent studies showed that even young people
with healthy hearts can suffer temporary heart damage when breathing
polluted air for 6-8 hours. It isn't just elderly people that can
suffer heart attacks, strokes, high blood pressure, and other serious
risks due to air pollution. It turns out even the healthiest members
of the population will suffer when constantly breathing in air
pollution.
Please uphold the standards from three years ago that will help to
protect more people from breathing contaminated air. Asthma, heart
attacks, strokes, and other serious health issues linked to air
pollution are no joke and cost D.C. a lot of money in health care
costs.
(I should note that anything that can prevent global warming is
urgently needed, too.)

Undoing a successful reduction in pollution makes absolutely no sense

I have lived in the District of Columbia on and off for more than 50
years. For decades pollution from the Capitol Power Plant has put
residents of the District of Columbia at risk. Now you have the
opportunity to ensure that the life-saving reductions in pollution that
have happened over the last three years, as the Plant stopped burning
coal, will continue for the future. Seize this opportunity to provide
cleaner air for yourself, for me and our neighbors and friends.
Families in D.C. deserve clean air and healthy communities. Moving to
more efficient use of the energy sources being used to power our
Nation's Capitol is the right direction. D.C. and the Capitol should be
a showcase for energy efficiency. However the higher pollution limits
the Capitol Power Plant is proposing, take us back to harmful levels of
air pollution of more than three years ago, should be rejected. We can
do better than that; we should do better than that for ourselves and
for our children.

I am a Capitol Hill resident, and we have solar panels. Our church, St,
Mark's Capitol Hill, is in the process of installing solar panels and
sustainable features as a part of our upcoming renovation.
I think it's time for the US Congress to take the lead in sustainable
energy and green the US Capitol. With all their land they could easily
have solar and thermal. They do not need this carbon age, smoke
belching dragon of a power plant. It's a national disgrace. They should
vote themselves an immediate upgrade and replace it tomorrow.

quality. I was encouraged by efforts to curb pollution from the

about to make could set us back.

The coal industrialists should see the handwriting on the wall and
re-tool to eliminate adding toxins to the immune systems of our
population. The heavy metals stunt the growth of neurons so people

Dear Gordon,
For decades pollution from the Capitol Power Plant has put residents of
the District of Columbia at risk. Now you have the opportunity to
ensure that the life-saving reductions in pollution that have happened
over the last three years, as the Plant stopped burning coal, will
continue for the future.
Families in D.C. deserve clean air and healthy communities. Moving to
more efficient use of the energy sources being used to power our
Nation's Capitol is the right direction. However the higher pollution
limits the Capitol Power Plant is proposing, taking us back to harmful
levels of air pollution from more than three years ago, should be
rejected.
