Sometimes in battle the enemy will give hrmself up to you rather thandie. You must not kill an enemy soldier who is tying to surrender.You have to take him prisoner, and he becomes a prisoner of war.There are certain rules about the treatrnent of prisoners of war whichyou mr-ust follow.A prisoner of war must give you the following inicrmation:

His namerankarmy number

and date of birth.He does not have to give you any other information about his unit, itsposition, strengrth, weapons and so on.

You must not torhtre him or ill-Ueat him in any way to force him to giveyou this kind of iniormation.

You have to search a prisoner of war. You must take from himanythmg which will help military intelligence, such as:

maps, notebooks, plans, otders, codes, etc.You also have to take from him anything which might help him toescape, such as a knife, compass or torch.
