Coming Soon! VBS 2016 — ”Light of the World”
Meet our Summer SPM
My name is Kate Rupert and I am very excited to be your SPM student this
summer. I will be entering my final year at the University of Dubuque The-
ological Seminary in the fall. My husband Tim, our dog Zacchaeus (Zac for
short), and I have lived in Dubuque since February and we are currently
moving to just outside of Waukon, IA where Tim will be serving Zalmona
and Rossville Presbyterian Churches. Before we moved to Dubuque, we
lived in Eau Claire, WI and I commuted to school for the week and then
went home on the weekends.
I grew up in the country just outside of Wilton, WI. A-er graduang
from high school, I went to the University of Dubuque to pursue a degree
in aviaon. By junior year I changed my major to Religious Studies and I
graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 2006. It was at UD that Tim and I met. I began going to church with Tim at
First Presbyterian in Dubuque and I immediately felt at home here. Tim started at UDTS in the fall of 2006 and
I followed a year later. In the spring of 2007, Tim proposed and I said yes and we were married in the fall of
that year here at First Presbyterian Church. We graduated from UDTS in 2009, Tim with a Master of Divinity
and myself with a Master of Arts in Religion. We then moved to Eau Claire, WI where Tim did a year long resi-
dency as a chaplain at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Eau Claire. A-er that year, Tim was hired as a staff chaplain.
During this me, I did a number of different jobs including an administrave assistant for a construcon com-
pany, worship coordinator for our church in Eau Claire, and a campus ministry leader at the University of Wis-
consin, Eau Claire. I also took some me to discern what I was supposed to do with my life. I then felt a call to
return to seminary to pursue a Master of Divinity and begin the ordinaon process in the PC(USA). I feel par-
cularly called to campus ministry. I am currently a candidate in the Presbytery of Northern Waters.
Some fun facts about me: I love to bake, especially cakes. I also like swimming, snowshoeing, hiking, canoe-
ing, golfing, and riding bike. A-er we move we will once again have a Star Wars room; an enre room in our
house dedicated to Star Wars books, Legos, memorabilia, and collectables. We like most things that are con-
sidered geeky/nerdy. I also like history and in parcular enjoy learning more about the Elizabethan and Victo-
rian periods in England and German history surrounding WWII. I love to travel and my goal is to visit all seven
connents before I die. I have made it to North America, Africa, Europe, and Asia so far.
Sunday School will wrap up May 29th and then will be in
summer recess. We will resume on Rally Day, September 11!

Mission in the Name of Christ...ON THE ROAD!
Hallelujah! Our mission team connues to grow! Now we are 12!
From July 17-22 the FPC Senior High Mission Team: Carlie Boelk, Elias, Jonah, & Nao-
mi Brehm, Bobby & Tim McCaw, Lupe & Sam Morales (youth); and Anne4e Boelk,
Kate Rupert, Mark Stant, and Kat Achtemeier (adults) will eat and sleep at First Pres-
byterian Church, Ferguson, MO, and serve in mission in the Ferguson/St. Louis area.
Thus far $1,242.65 has been collected through donaons that have come through the
offering plate and generous donaons at our April bake sale. With these funds, plus
funds from the Mission Commi4ee, and each youth (who will be expected to contrib-
ute), we are geNng close to our goal, but are sll about $500 short. Specially marked
envelopes are in the pews.

THANK YOU MICHELLE!
Michelle Daniels’ last Sunday to serve as a care-giver in our church
nursery will be Sunday, May 29th. We are saddened about our
loss, but so very grateful for Michelle and her dedicaon to our
children.
During the summer Micah Dillman will return to her old posion in the
nursery and will serve alongside Elissa Smith, but we will need to secure a
2nd nursery care provider by summer’s end. Please let the Personnel Com.
(John Dillman, Bob Monthey, Mark Ward, Cherie Daniels) know if you have
suggesons.
Dear Pastor Kat and all of our generous friends,
It rained more than buckets this week! You are amazing!
It must have taken a truck to bring all your donaons to
the shelter. Thank you!
Your donaons are not “just” paper products. They are
everyday, ordinary things. But they represent “normal”
and “safe” and not to worry about the small stuff. God
bless you all!
Gratefully on behalf of all we serve-
Sister Charla and staff at the Dubuque Community YM/
YWCA Vicm Services Shelter
Dear First Presbyterian Church,
We want to let you know that
during a staff meeng this
morning, we li/ed your name in
prayer and thanked God for your ministry.
God’s blessing to you and yours!

“Supplies for the Second”
While serving at the Domesc Violence Center we
learned how we can help by providing supplies that are
always needed: toilet paper, paper towels, boxes of s-
sues, toilet bowl cleaner, cleaning products like Win-
dex, laundry detergent, diapers.
This month’s major needs are:
a variety of cleaning and paper products
Please bring your “Supplies for the Second” to the
church and place them under the table in the narthex
the second Sunday of each month. Dawna Duff has vol-
unteered to deliver them to the collecon site at the
Dubuque Community Y.
