PRINCIPAL’S COMMENT Monday 9 th December 2013 As the year draws to a close, it is only fitting to thank the P&C Executive led by Mrs Amy Corrigan, the community of parents, volunteers, scripture teachers, mentors and community-connected groups affiliated with the school. Westport is a school that is surrounded by the partnerships and support provided by the wider community and on behalf of all the staff and students, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for the contribution and support given to us. It is also a time that some of our Year 6 parents and caregivers will be leaving our community and we thank those parents for the commitment over the years and give our best wishes for the future. On another note there is at present a flurry of activity taking place between the Kinder and Year 1 rooms. Our hard working P&C are busy laying new turf for the students. This area will become a lovely learning and social space in our school with the new turf providing a welcoming addition to our wonderful resources at our beaut school. Presentation Day Students, teachers and parents are looking forward to Presentation Day this Thursday. Presentation Day celebrates the achievements of our student across a range of endeavours throughout the year. It is a very special day, one where our students are able to feel pride in their achievements and celebrate the achievements of others. Congratulations to our practicum teachers who completed their teaching block this week – Miss Knight, Miss Hodgins, Miss Trigg and Miss Taylor. We hope that you have had an enjoyable experience and that you have enhanced your teaching skills. Good luck in your future teaching. YR6 BAREFOOT BOWLS Yr6 had great fun at barefoot bowls last Thursday. Most of them had never played before but picked it up very quickly. Thank you to Mr Ainsworth for organising this fun activity for us.

VOLUNTEERS FOR 2014 In 2014 the Stage 3 Science and Technology outcomes will be chiefly addressed through gardening and cooking activities. These sessions will be held from 12.45pm to 3pm over 4 days. For these sessions to have a major practical component we need volunteers to work with us during gardening and cooking activities. Throughout 2013 many of the students at our school really enjoyed participating in gardening activities. We welcome parents, grandparents, family friends or neighbours, so feel free to ask in the wider community. You don’t need to know a lot about gardening or cooking. We can all learn together. If you would like to work with our Stage 3 students on a volunteer basis with gardening or cooking activities please come to the Office and ask for a slip to fill out. Many thanks Debbie Bradtke JUNIOR CHOIR GARDEN VILLAGE VISIT Our Junior Choir visited the Garden Village Nursing Home last Wednesday to entertain the residents with Christmas songs. They were surprised by a visit from Mr Everson the General Manager of the Garden Village. It was great to see the residents join in our songs and the students enjoyed talking to them and sharing some morning tea.
