SECOND QUARTER | 2016

COMFORTING KIDS IN NEED WITH FURRY FRIENDS

Whelan team members from our Houston office recently volunteered their time and energy to help bring joy and smiles to hundreds of children throughout the region. During the month of June, Whelan employees joined dozens of security professionals from the Houston area to help purchase, donate and personally distribute over 1,000 stuffed teddy bears to children and their families receiving medical care at several local hospitals.

The “Teddy Bears for Tots” initiative was organized by the Houston Chapter of ASIS International, the leading professional organization within the security industry. Mike King, Whelan General Manager in Houston, is an active member and Chairman of the ASIS Houston Chapter where he has helped coordinate the program for the last four years.

“The annual distribution of teddy bears is a signature outreach event in Houston that has since expanded to include a number of children’s after school and summer care facilities in addition to several area hospitals,” explains King. “My colleagues and I look forward to participating in this special event every year for the opportunity to make a direct impact in our community by providing hundreds of deserving children with a warm, new friend.”

Maintaining good community relations and giving back to the community are important principles at Whelan. We are proud of our local team in Houston for making a difference through the Teddy Bears for Tots program and we encourage all of our employees to get involved in their communities. If you or a group of Whelan employees are involved in supporting a charitable organization or civic, cultural or educational institution, we want to hear about it!
