THE POWER OF INNOVATION

NextAire™ products are some of the most innovative HVAC products in the market today! The ICE NextAire™ GHP can provide good heating and cooling solutions for any applica-tion. Not a new technology, this product has been evolv-ing worldwide since the 1980s. Across the globe, there are over 700,000 GHP units installed, and the U.S. has only a frac-tion of these installations. Given the current natural gas price environment, and the higher electricity prices, the NextAire™ heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) system can reduce a building’s space air conditioning costs by over 80 per-cent in some cases. Also, when a natural gas heat pump is de-ployed, an electric utility can benefit through less utilization during peak summer periods.

Gas Heat Pump (GHP) Air-Conditioners have been used globally for over two decades and have proven to be an energy saving and sustainable alternative to electric-based HVAC systems. Collectively, the GHP manufacturers have produced over 700,000 Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems.

The first VRV product was launched in Asia in the early 1980’s, and then launched again in 1987 in Europe. Over the last two decades, VRV systems have become more energy efficient and now, as the U.S. demand for ‘green’ products are growing, this state-of-the-art sustainable technology is being looked at with the utmost interest.

While this technology has been used throughout the Asian and European markets for decades, the electric VRV systems and the GHP VRF systems have been paving new roads in North America. Tom Young, the founder of IntelliChoice Energy, has been working with GHP natural gas VRF systems since 1994. IntelliChoice Energy has been working on natural gas heat pump projects with the Department of Defense and the De-partment of Energy to create more energy efficient gas cooling GHP products. These products are being used in many private, public and government applications across the United States. The Desert Southwest was used as the proving grounds to en-sure already reliable GHP units will work in the most severe conditions.

The VRF systems are perceived as being “new” to the U.S., however, they have been well established in North America. The representatives of the electric VRV-VRF systems have and continue to educate and train the Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning industry about GHP technology. We are continual-ly working to educate the public on the history of our systems and the advantages of our product.

The gas heat pump (GHP) heats indoor spaces by pulling heat from the outside air into the indoor air. They can be switched into reverse to move heat from the indoor air to the outdoor air to cool down the indoor space. A compressor, which evapo-rates and condenses refrigerant, enables the transfer of heat from one space to another. Unlike an electric heat pump which uses an electric motor to power the compressor, a GHP uses clean burning natural gas in a combustion engine to drive its compressor. When the 15-ton is used with the Air Water System (AWS) it creates chilled and hot water.

The GHP utilizes scroll compressors combined with state-of-the-art electronic controls and variable refrigerant volume management which allows for a multi-zone system using the NextAire™ 8-ton and/or 15-ton units. The use of a Refrigerant loop eliminates the need for space consuming duct soffits and allows for the placement of air handlers within each dedicated zone. The GHP uses R-410A, one of the most environmentally-friendly refrigerants.
