Welcome to Contra Costa College Athletics

Contra Costa College Comet Fans,

I want to express my sincere thanks for your ongoing support of athletic teams at Contra Costa College. Contra Costa College has a wonderful tradition of ensuring that our goals for athletic and academic excellence are met. We have high hopes that the 2016-2017 athletic teams will be competitive and produce great scholar athletes who, with a great deal of pride, represent our college. I ask that you join me in supporting our teams individually and collectively over the course of the 2016-2017 academic year. Your support of our athletic program means a great deal to our college community. Our student athletes work extremely hard both inside and outside of the classroom and for that they deserve our support. I encourage you to show up to as many events as you can to let them know that you are proud of them for continuing the proud tradition of Contra Costa College athletics.

GO COMETS !!!All the best,

Mojdeh Medihzadeh President

Dear Comet Players & Their Families,

Thank you for your support of the outstanding athletic programs here at Contra Costa College. Whether you are one of our students, a family member, or community supporter, you are a Comet and an important part of the Contra Costa College family. Mia Hamm once said, “Good players create opportunities. The great players and the great people seize them.” I believe this is true in competition and the classroom, and am proud to be a part of a college community with a long tradition of providing opportunities for student athletes to achieve both academic and athletic excellence. I look forward to a wonderful year and celebrating all our students’ amazing accomplishments with you. GO COMETS !!!

Tammeil GilkersonVice President of Academic & Student Affairs

Alonzo CarterCCC’s Head Football Coach

Alonzo Carter is from Oakland, CA. Alonzo attended Contra Costa College, where he received his A. A. and B.A. at Cal State East

Bay. He also played football and ran track from 1986-1989 at Cal State East Bay.

Coach Carter’s coaching experience includes: seven years as the McClymonds High School Football Head Coach, three years as Berkeley High School’s Football Head Coach, and 13 years as McClymonds’ Head Track Coach. Alonzo was also Head Coach for the 2009 summer Alameda/Contra Costa County All Star Game, and Head Coach for the 2009 Holiday Classic East Bay vs. Sacramento.

In 2012, Coach Carter led the Comets to the Bay Valley Conference Championship and was named the BVC and CCCFA Region II Coach of the Year.

Continuing onward, Coach Carter once again led the Comets through 2013 BVC, 2014, 2015 Pacific 7 Champions of the NCFC, making them 4-time winners.

In addition, the Comets also won the Living Breath

Foundation Bowl in 2012 and 2014.In honor of these

accomplishments, Coach Carter was awarded the 2014 Pacific 7 and American Division Coach of the Year.

Coach Carter also has 13 years experience head coaching for Alameda/Contra Costa County Youth Track Club, and was an original board

When he’s not coaching, he enjoys listening to old school music, going to comedy shows and concerts with his wife Roezell Carter, spending time with his children: Isaiah, Malikhi, Alonzo II, Alona, Anthony, and Kennedie Carter, and of course, going to live sporting events.

Welcome to 2016 Comet Football! Contra Costa College is a wonderful academic institution where I recently received my

A.A. degree, and I plan on having my players follow suit by making sure they graduate. We are striving to rebuild this program with a focus on local talent and making CCC the place to be. My main objective is not only to

win games, but more importantly to have our players graduate and move on to four-year universities. With the help of my wonderful staff, I hope to take Contra Costa College back to its glory days. We will play ‘Fast & Physical’ and most of all preach academics. Thank you for continuing to support our program, and together, let’s get ready for a strong season.”

— Alonzo Carter, Head Football Coach
