Life Without Spectrum

Imagine, what would happen if you are being disconnected or restricted from all the means of communication devices and techniques. This would definitely make your life completely intolerable. You have today grown so much addicted to the technology that you will not be able to survive even for a day without these essential means of communication.

Now think of the families whose children reside away from them and they have no any means of communication to interact with them. How hard it would be for them to get news about their sons and daughters who work or study in some other city or country without having access to these communication mediums. All such people having been residing in such areas since ages and have been waiting for the government and the telecommunication firms to setup their systems for fulfilling their most basic need. But for them this problem doesn't seem to end either now or in the coming future.

Problems Associated with the Use of Spectrum

According to you what might be the problem that neither the government nor any telecommunication industry has rolled out installation plans to solve their problems till now? Once you come across the reasons, you won't believe most of those. Here are the reasons why the problem of no spectrum access continues to occur:

Spectrum lobbying: According to the government as the population density is less in most of these areas they don't find it worth investing their money in here. They keep the access of licensed spectrum only for large telecom firms, which too have no interest in smaller areas, thereby not giving people access to any mode of telecommunication.

Unauthorized to access Unlicensed spectrum: Unlicensed spectrum that is not used by anyone and should be open for all is still kept away from reach of the people, who are not allowed to it for personal purposes.

Government policies: If some people have the capability to set up a system of their own to access spectrum, government does not provide them the license to do so. Its usage policies also abstain people from using the spectrum on their own.

Population Density: It is the major concern of the government and telecommunication industries. The population density of these remote areas is very less, merely a few hundreds, because of which the telecommunication companies do not want to setup their systems in these areas. They deny to set up their system as the margin of profit is very less and you can say almost negligible. They believe that, it would not be possible for them to recover the cost they would spent in setting up the system.

Appeal For Justice: Making an appeal for the justice provides them little or no support that further delays the procedure to months or even years. Moreover, their smaller groups stand no chance again larger telecom firms, which only makes things tougher for them.

However, there are other platforms where all such people can come together and share the common motive of pushing governments and telecom firms to do something about the situation. Since they alone cannot do much about it, the need is to create a much larger community that can fight their cause and help them connect with their loved ones just as everyone does. Only the combined efforts of all can make world a lot better place to live in.
