Welcome to Beautiful Savior! We are glad that you have come to God’s house to worship him and hear the beautiful message he wants to share with you.

We are a La Porte County family founded on, and growing in, the truth of God’s Word; sharing the love of our Beautiful Savior.

Although our backgrounds differ, we find common ground in our Beautiful Savior, Jesus. Each one of us understands we were once separated from our gracious God. God himself has brought us close to him through our Savior Jesus Christ. In Christ, we have been adopted into the family of God, and we now see each other as brothers and sisters by the blood of Christ. Therefore, we function as a family united in faith, love, and service.

Every family has values. Beautiful Savior’s core values are Biblical Instruction, Fellowship, Outreach, and Prayer.

WORSHIP PREPARATION… Prayers useful for your preparation to worship your God and Savior can be found on p.10-11 in the front of Christian Worship, the red hymn book located in the pews.

WORSHIP THEME… Much of our consumer-orientated world is regulated for safety and protection. Car seat manufacturers describe exactly how tall, and how heavy the infant or toddler you buckle in them can be to avoid serious injury in a high-impact collision. Ladders are slapped with vibrant, eye-catching stickers that explain how much weight they can safely handle, and on which rungs. Tables designed for use in warehouses and manufacturing are labeled to describe the maximum weight and stress that can be placed on them so that they do not buckle or crumble underneath it.

What about your spiritual life? For what weight has it been rated? How much pressure and stress can you pile upon your heart and soul before it buckles, breaks, or collapses underneath it all?

Our own hearts and souls do not carry a satisfactory safety rating. That’s exactly why God instructs and commands us to build our lives on a solid foundation, one that is rated for any and every stress and pressure that might strike it. God commands us to build on the rock, our Savior Jesus, and his word of instruction.

Worship Series New is good, right? We like that new car smell; new paint to brighten a room; new clothes that fit the way they are supposed to, vibrant in their colors; new toys – for young and old alike - to capture our imagination and provide hours of entertainment. New is good, but we all need something more than a new car, clothes, or toys. We need a new life, in which there is new light and hope. This Christmas we celebrate the promise of our God to make “All Things New.”

As Jesus ascended into Heaven, he called his church to take up his cause – the salvation of souls – as they gave witness and testimony to his victory. He equipped them for that important mission with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, and the tools of his Holy Word. Today, the church, and we, her people, are called by our Savior to arise and take up his cause. Encouraged by his victory, equipped by his Holy Spirit, and motivated by love we bear witness in the world to the glory of the gospel.

CONFESSION & FORGIVENESS OF SINS PSALM 51

M: Dear friends, let us approach God with a true heart and confess our sins, asking him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to forgive us.

C: I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge. Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.

SCRIPTURE READING PSALM 78, SELECTED VERSES

1 O my people, hear my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth. 2 I will open my mouth in parables,

I will utter hidden things, things from of old— 3 what we have heard and known, what our fathers have told us. 4 We will not hide them from their children; we will tell the next generation

the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done. 5 He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel,

which he commanded our forefathers to teach their children, 6 so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born,

and they in turn would tell their children. 7 Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds

but would keep his commands. 32 In spite of all this, they kept on sinning;

Service Note: The focus of every worship service at Beautiful Savior is God’s Word for our lives. The scripture readings build up to and anticipate the Gospel reading which focuses on the life of Jesus Christ. “You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me.” (John 5:39)

GOSPEL READING MATTHEW 7:15-29

15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. 16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. STATEMENT OF FAITH THE APOSTLES’ CREED

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Service Note: The creed serves as a succinct and clear announcement of the Christian faith and the beliefs of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church. The creed also serves as a personal confession of faith. Christ and his work are the center of the creed. “You are the Christ, the son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:16)

PRAYER OF THE CHURCH & THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

RESUMING IN-PERSON WORSHIP… In person worship will continue for those who are comfortable. Please read the important documentation of our plans available here: https://tinyurl.com/BSLC-COVID-19-REOPEN . Our goal is to protect the health and safety of all who worship. All worship services will be live streamed for those who desire to worship from home. Volunteers are needed. Sign-ups were delivered via text and e-mail.

SOCCER CAMP… Beautiful Savior’s 2020 Soccer Camp will likely take on a new form and new dates. More information will soon be made available.

DIVINE CALL… Pastor has received a Call to serve Divine Savior Church – Sienna, in Missouri City, TX. You are welcome and encouraged to speak with Pastor regarding both ministries.
