We plan financially to go on vacation, we plan financially for the education of our children, we make financial plans for our retirement; do we plan financially to support God’s work in our parish community? In gratitude for the gifts we receive from God, 33% of our registered families and those visiting made a joyful return to the Lord to assist in the support of God’s work in our parish community. Let’s increase this participation to 100%.

Week at a Glance Mark your calendar, Friday, August 19th, at 6:30pm in Hedges Hall for another thrilling KARAOKE event hosted by St. Matthew Knights of Columbus. Get a group together and get in on the action. Families, singles, duets, groups, do your thing. No talent required, just the willingness to get on stage and sing along with your favorite singer’s style of
music. Professionals not solicited, only tolerated.
You don't relish being in the spotlight? Join the excitement as a spectator cheering for your favorite performer. We furnish the music but you are welcomed to bring your own karaoke CDG music. Have a favorite entertainer? Let us know in advance and we'll do our best to accommodate you.
A free event but donations willingly accepted for soft drinks, water, popcorn and snacks. Hot dawgs and burgers $2.00 each. Proceeds benefit Barrow County “Come Alive Ministries”

19th Sunday in Ordinary TimePastor’s Corner
Since the 7th century, stained glass has been used not only to beautify the church’s building, but also to illustrate
the story of our faith. Some illustrate the Bible stories while others, the life of the Saints.
Every time I enter Saint Matthew Catholic Church, the few stained glass windows that have already been installed remind me of some very important Bible stories. The one on the top of the altar reminds me of this beautiful passage from the Gospel of John: “When [Jesus] had washed their feet
and put his garments back on and reclined at the table again, he said to them…, I have given you a model to follow, so that
as I have done for you, you should also do” (John 13:12-15). The one on the right and the left side of the altar depict the whole story of the Holy family; from the announcement of the birth of Jesus to their fleeing to Egypt. Then the Gospel writers, so far we have Matthew and John with the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick under Matthew and the creation scene under John.
Since we have already spoken about Matthew, let us say something about John. I have already mentioned that each evangelist has a symbol. Matthew has a man/angel, Mark a lion, Luke an ox, and John an eagle. These symbols are found more than once in the Bible, Ezekiel 1: 1-14;10: 1 22 and Revelation 4:5-11.
John, the brother of James is one of the evangelist and also an apostle. He was the son of Zebedee and is often referred to as the beloved disciple. He was the one to whom Jesus entrusted his mother to. From the Cross Jesus said to Mary, “woman,
behold your son! And to the disciple, behold your mother” (John 19:26-27).
We thank everyone who has sponsored a stained glass, but in a special way, we want to thank Bob and Mary Tardif who sponsored our most recent stained glass, Saint John in loving memory of their parents, the Shuchart and Tardif family.
