BASIC OPERATION

PROTECTOFIER monitors one or more burn-ers, and responds to the presence orabsence of flame via the rectification Winci-pIe. When using a FLAME ROD, the flameitself serves as a switch to open or close aD.C. circuit to FbAM~-PAK. Similarly, whenusing a P-C IT SCANN~R, a D.C. signal sourceis created by the ultra-violet sensitive tubec;mly when the flame is scanned. With eithersensing system, if the signal from flame toFLAME-PAK is interrupted (response time, 4seconds or less), the circuit to the safetyshut-off valve is broken, which automaticallyshuts down the complete system (and canalso energize circuit to alarm). The TELEFIERlight instantly indicates faulry Durner in amulti-burner system.

INSTALLATION DATAMOUNTING

PROTECTOF IERS can be mounted in any position andany practical distance from supervised burners. Open typescan be mounted in standard Control Panels. Separate en-closures, constructed of heavy gauge steel, are available.

WIRING

Wiring between the flame sensor(s) and the PROTECTOFIERshould be No. 14 gauge, type TW wire, insulated for 600 volts.All sensor wires may be run together in the same conduit.See Service Manual PSM-1187.

FLAME SENSORS PROTECTOFIERSare supplied for operation at 120V 50- 60Hz.

PROTECTOFIERS function with any commercial flame rodassemblies and/or with P-C II (Ultra-Violet) SCANNER-even in a single burner system. The Ultra-Violet Scannercan be used with either gas or oil flames.

Solid state module contains entire electronic circuit tosupervise one burner-no components under chassis! Com-pact units provide exceptionally reliable operation, longservice life, and are interchangeable for easy piug-in servicing.

TIMOFIEROptional control for automatic system purge and/or ignitiontrial timing. It actuates "flush-out" of combustible atmos-phere before start-up. Timing cycle is non-adjustable (specifyrange required}. Plug-in convenience permits easy servicingand inter-changing of TIMOFIERS with different timecycles.

TELEFIER

Built-in flame-fault indicator light for multi-burner systemsinstantly shows exact burner position causing shutdown-eliminates trouble-shooting steps and downtime.

CONTROL MODULES

PROTECTOFIER Modules are teamed-up with the masterchassis to supervise multi-burner systems. Each modulecontains a FLAME-PAK, TELEFIER, TRANSFORMER andFLAME RELAY to supervise one burner. The plug-inFLAME RELAY insures that each pilot flame is establishedbefore main valve is energized.

P-C n (ULTRA-VIOLET) SCANNERS

For use with either gas or oil flames. Compact unitscontain only an ultra-violet sensing tube for direct 2-wireconnection to PROTECTOFIER. IMPORT ANT: Flame rodassembles and P-C II SCANNERS can be used simulta-neously in the same PROTECTOFIER System. P-C II W

U-V SCANNER, providedwith a 1/2" straight liquid-tite electrical connector andP-C IIWRA U-V SCANNER,provided with a 1/2" rightangle liquid-rite electricalconnector are also available.

These "NR" Models are available to meet safety requirementsthat do not permit a re-light upon flame failure on certainautomatically operated burner installations. They have thesame built-in reliability and features of the standard Form6642V Series PROTECTOFIER, plus an additional plug-inACF relay and the necessary circuitry to prevent are-lightattempt upon a flame failure. "NR" Automatic Models areavailable with plug-in U-300A TIMOFIER to provide forpre-purge.
