Welcome Message

Greetings to all!

It is my pleasure to welcome all participants to our 41st Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM)

of MOA and for the first time we have Asean Arthroplasty Association (AAA) to participate

in this years’ prestigious meeting.

We have planned an excellent scientific programme especially on arthroplasty.

We believe you will enjoy and be enlightened with the latest advancement in this field and

other orthopaedic specialities.

For this meeting, we will have two concurrent sessions with six plenaries and four

congress workshops. We have invited many international and local speakers to meet the

expectations of our delegates. We have also been flooded with free papers and poster

abstract submissions, complemented by contributions from our international guests.

As for the venue, we are proud to host this meeting at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre,

an iconic landmark of Malaysia that offers a stimulating environment where one can work,

live, shop and visit.

This meeting will not be successful without the help of all my committee members.

My committee has worked hard and I am truly grateful for their commitment and efforts

throughout this whole year.

Lastly, I genuinely believe that this meeting will not disappoint you. I hope you will have a

fruitful meeting and pleasant stay in Kuala Lumpur.

Dato’ Dr Zulkharnain IsmailPresident, Malaysian Orthopaedic Association &Organising Chairman, 41st MOA AGM/ASM

Welcome to the Combined Meeting of the 41st Annual General Meeting (AGM) /

Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) of the Malaysian Orthopaedic Association (MOA) and

5th Scientific Meeting of the ASEAN Arthroplasty Association (AAA).

The ASEAN Arthroplasty Association has always been dedicated to promoting and

developing knowledge and skills in hip and knee reconstruction surgery among ASEAN

nations. The objective of this conference is to provide a unique opportunity to exchange

information and experiences as well as strengthen partnerships and cooperation

amongst the hip and knee surgery communities of Asia. Various remarkable international

academics and authorities are also invited to present their work and deliver lectures on

their expertise and perspectives.

I hope you will enjoy getting together with friends and colleagues as well as sharing

the latest progress on our common interest in this excellent scientific programme on

Arthroplasty. I wish this important event of the year every success. May you all have a

pleasant stay in Malaysia.

Dr Thanainit ChotanaphutiPresident, ASEAN Arthroplasty Association

Welcome Message

Orthopaedic service in Malaysia has come a long way from its beginnings. It started

with the establishment of the first orthopaedic unit at Kuala Lumpur General Hospital

after the second world war in 1949. Dr Abdul Majid Ismail was the first local orthopaedic

surgeon to head the orthopaedic unit at Kuala Lumpur General Hospital. In 1967, the

Malaysian Orthopaedic Association (MOA) was formed with Dr. Abdul Majid Ismail as the

first President.

The theme for this conference is “Reconstructing Joints”. Given Malaysian’s ageing

population, joint replacement surgery is on the increase. With advances in new implant

designs, technologies and implant materials, we hope that Malaysia will be at the forefront

of joint replacement surgeries. It is meetings such as these that would bring the latest

advancements in research and use of technology into Malaysia and the region. We are

pleased that MOA has organised such a focal event.

On behalf of Ministry of Health Malaysia, we wish to welcome the ASEAN Arthroplasty

Association council and all overseas doctors. This is truly a international meeting with

invited speakers and participants from Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines,

India, United States, France, New Zealand, Sweden, Switzerland and United Kingdom.

We hope you enjoy our beautiful Malaysia and her people.

Finally, we congratulate the Organizing Committee of the 41st MALAYSIAN ORTHOPAEDIC

ASSOCIATION ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING / ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC MEETING & 5TH

ASEAN ARTHROPLASTY ASSOCIATION MEETING for the work well done.

We wish all participants an informative, enjoyable and most importantly useful experience

throughout the Conference.

Thank you.
