Project n. 1: Personal Geographies

Maps and aerial vies are the starting point for this textile design collection. Fabrics with a crinkled, shrunken aesthetic and relief textures, mirroring the blistered surfaces of the Earth seen from above: woven designs that resemble the sinuous lines of the rivers, the desert hollows and the muted tones of the meadows through the use of elastic yarns, dynamic inner tensions and subtle volumes. Lines and colours are spreading across the surface of luxurious printed scarves, inspired by the visual anthology of artist’s maps, paintings and aerial views. The woven and the printed fabrics are complementary: not only they are parts of the same collection but they also represent two different sides of my working methodology. The weave is as a way to develop designs through the process, while the printed patterns are more the result of mark making and sketchbook drawing. The two outcomes of the project are quite different in their appearance, yet I consider this contrast a significant element and a characteristic note of my style.

Project n. 2: Colour and weave

Hand woven designs on a Texel loom, using cashmere, merino and John Smedley Wools. The project develops traditional woven structures. The colour palette is inspired by vintage objects, flea markets, butterflies, old jewellery.

Some pages from the sketchbook of the “colour and weave” project:

Project n. 3: Invisible cities

An homage to Italo Calvino and his book “Invisible Cities”. The city, its architectures, personal memories and disguised relations as a starting point for geometric woven designs (jacquard) and abstract prints (digitally printed on wool).
