A BACKGROUND OF COLUMNAENERGY CONSULTING

COLUMNA ENERGY CONSULTING wasfounded by Engineer Lope Columna,who was one of the top engineers of thePhilippine NATIONAL POWERCORPORATION (NAPOCOR). He wasgiven a US scholarship grant by thePhilippine Government to study theadvanced technology of Nuclear PowerPlant Operation and Maintenance. As aUSA-trained engineer, combined with themany tough on-the-job and classroomtraining given locally, Engr. Columnabecame one of the best-trained EnergyEngineers in the country, and one of thepioneers of Nuclear Power PlantEngineering Technology in the Philippines.

After leaving NAPOCOR, Engr. Columnaalso became the Pioneer of the Energy andEngineering training in the country. These energy training-seminars, which were conducted in-houseand in public, were attended by many participants from the top and world-class corporations. Thesemany technical training-seminars unearthed the problems and weaknesses that plagued businessesand industries. Engineer Columna usually visit and have a tour of the participants' plants and factorysites. This gave him a visual firsthand knowledge and familiarization of those diversified industries.These many energy training-seminars include the efficient design, efficient operations, and proactivemaintenance of the major energy systems and components of the commercial and industrial energysystems. In 1993, Eng. Columna, through his first firm VISIONEERING-ENERGY SYSTEMS, waschosen to be one of the pioneer tenants of the University of the Philippines Technology BusinessIncubator Project, Diliman, Quezon City. The TechnoPark project is under the PhilippinesDepartment of Science and Technology (DOST).

Before becoming a licensed engineer, Mr. Columna also worked as an industrial Mechanic andTechnician in many manufacturing plants. Thus, Engineer Columna was exposed to personalknowledge and firsthand experience of the problems plaguing industries that result in the hugewastes of materials and energy that are released to the environment, causing environmental pollutionand the Climate Change disastrous effects. Engr. Columna also worked as a teacher/tutor of thecompetency-based Refrigeration & Air-Conditioning (RAC) ElectroTechnologies at Clark EducationCity (CEC-AITMG), an Australian-owned and managed Training and Management Corporation.Engr. Columna was also assigned to be the Supervising Engineer of Engineering, Construction, andMaintenance of Clark Education City campus. Engr. Columna also worked as the ENGINEERINGMANAGER of SHAQ Paper and Plastics, Co. Ltd. Here, he is responsible for the Energy EfficiencyImprovements, maintenance, renovation, and construction of three (3) Manufacturing Plants. Engr.Columna also worked as an Energy/Power Consultant of ENERGY & UTILITY SERVICES (EUS) ofSingapore. He was sent to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) to study its Power and EnergyServices Market. All of these work experience, training-seminars, and energy research, became thethrust and business activities of COLUMNA ENERGY CONSULTING.
