October: Columbus Jazz Orchestra / Jazz Arts Group
Kelley Hand explains what it’s like to be an Environmental Engineer and how her studies led to this profession. Meagan Aliff is a Phycologist, a scientist who studies algae, and talks about how her lab experiments are focused on turning algae into a fuel source. Jim Singleton is a Digital Forensic Detective with the Columbus Police Department. He is always using the latest tools to search for evidence.
All these folks are involved in innovative STEM professions and have recently been profiled by WOSU Public Media for specific use in schools. For the past few years, we’ve focused on telling brief stories about careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) as a resource for students, teachers and guidance counselors.
Through this collection of videos, we hear from young STEM professionals about the educational path that led them to their career choice and what they love about their jobs. WOSU’s work is funded through a State of Ohio grant and is helping high school students make better educated decisions on professions they want to study in college.

Columbus Neighborhoods, the Emmy® award-winning documentary series and community engagement project, returns this month with the premiere of Worthington on Sunday, October 5 at 8pm on WOSU TV.
A library, a church and a school. Those three institutions were created in Worthington long before any of the founding fathers from New England stepped foot in Ohio. And through pioneer hardships, economic depressions and world wars, the citizens of Worthington have held fast to the principles of fellowship and lifelong learning. It’s a story of determination in this picture-postcard town.

Every Wednesday evening the producers of the award-winning Broad & High do a phenomenal job bringing you all the happenings in the world of art and culture from here in central Ohio. On Friday nights at 7:30pm, Mike Thompson and his panel discuss the news and, this month, all the election stories of the week on Columbus on the Record.

Washington began his radio career by winning the Public Radio Talent Quest sponsored by Public Radio Exchange and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which attracted some 1,400 entries.
Snap Judgment is one NPR’s fastest growing programs, airing on nearly 300 stations across the country.
If you enjoy stories with a beat and tales from different perspectives, Snap Judgment is worth a listen Sunday afternoons at 2pm…get ready for the ride.
Washington says. “You always wonder what your life would have been if you’d gone the other way.”
Each show has a theme. Recently Snap featured a program called “The End of the Line” which presented stories of people who just did not know how to say, “I quit.” Another program called “Reunion” told amazing stories about getting back together. “Desperate Measures” wove together tales from regular people who were backed up against a wall.
Glynn Washington has had a varied career. Before creating Snap Judgment, Washington worked as an educator, music composer, poet, diplomat, community activist, actor, political strategist, “fist shaker,” “mountain hollerer” and “foot stomper.”
A native of Detroit, Washington graduated from the University of Michigan, but we won’t hold that against him.
Get ready to strap yourself into an audio roller coaster. Sunday afternoons, 89.7 NPR News brings you NPR’s hot new storytelling program. Snap Judgment is storytelling with a beat, mixing personal tales with upbeat music. Airing Sunday afternoons at 2pm, Snap Judgment joins This American Life, The Moth and Ted Radio Hour to round out 89.7’s weekend storytelling programs.
We call it Reality Radio.
Hosted by Glynn Washington, Snap Judgment tells intriguing stories about extraordinary and defining events in people’s lives. The program’s raw, intimate and musical brand of storytelling dares listeners to see a sliver of the world through another’s eye.
The fast-paced program includes personal stories from people around the globe who put everything on the line.
“It’s the Robert Frost thing: the roads diverge, and you have to make a choice,” host
by MICHAEL THOMPSON, 89.7 NPR News Programming Director
Snap Judgment – Storytelling with a Beat Livens Up Sunday Afternoons
Snap Judgment host Glynn Washington takes listeners on a narrative journey—leaping from one person’s frying pan into another person’s fire. Deejay-driven musical delivery, paired with lush sound design, drops listeners into the very heart of what matters.
