Primordia’s organic appearance reflects topological strata; alluvial layers in stone that are created over aeons. The material combines these natural aspects with a rough finish, celebrating the beauty of patina and texture while reinventing the kitchen as a striking cooking space outfitted with chef-quality appliances and sophisticated accents.

Primordia’s industrial look is accentuated by its unique imperfections; a theme common to each colour in Caesarstone’s Metropolitan Collection. Its cool grey complexion echoes the character of concrete, evoking a contemporary feel. Composed across its light grey base, soft mineral splotches range in off-whites and greys, combined with darker veils of grey and brown to reflect the oxidised rusts found in nature. This authentic effect is completed by additional traces of faint yellow and washed green, giving the surface more body.

Every kitchen, every benchtop, tells a story and this release is inspired by the trend away from sleek minimalism to a deeper appreciation of natural materials and rustic surfaces.

Primordia™ celebrates its unique imperfections – a theme common to each colour in Caesarstone’s Metropolitan Collection. It’s cool grey composition brings the character of concrete, evoking a contemporary feel that still reflects a sense of authenticity.

With the release of Primordia™, Caesarstone is looking to celebrate the trend for rustic-looking surfaces that reflect our natural environment.

It’s the perfect complement to black steel-framed doors, exposed brick walls and even polished concrete flooring – all part of the warehouse or industrial look now very much in favour. It is also a great match with freestanding commercial-style stainless steel stoves and cookers, especially when used as a showstopping splashback.

As a kitchen island, its neutral palette will blend with other materials such as concrete and dark oak flooring. In loft or warehouse-style spaces, the surface is ideal for elements such as corrugated steel, compressed grey felt, or industrial hardware in brushed or stainless metal.

The rich terracotta tones of the rusted elements in Primordia™ also reflect the move to warmer tones in interiors, with coppers, chocolate leathers and exposed bricks all working well with the new surface.

Primordia’s complex composition means that it is incredibly versatile, because it will highlight different colours to complement a variety of materials and accessories.

For kitchens, rich metals – think brushed brass tapware or copper door handles – will pick up the rust-like elements in Primordia™ to create layers of interest and texture. Joinery using Polytec’s Prime Oak and Oyster Grey finishes are perfect partners with Primordia™.

For bathrooms, dark timber-style floor tiles work well, along with burnished black industrial-style tapware or a palette of charcoal joinery and concrete-style tiles to create an elegant, yet contemporary aesthetic. Steel-framed shower screens would complete either look.

Choosing the Right Cabinetry for Primordia™ 4043

Marylou Cafaro explains how to choose the right cabinetry to match our newest industrial rough concrete design, Primordia.

What do you love about the organic industrial look? Why do you think this industrial look works in kitchens and bathrooms?

Marylou: The organic industrial style, also known as refined industrial, is a warmer more natural feeling style that still incorporates the typical base materials like concrete, timber and metal.

This look evolved from the raw industrial style and is much easier to incorporate into your home because of its smooth tactile finishes and the soft balance of cool and warm colours.

Perfect for kitchens and bathrooms, as it creates a warmer inviting environment that otherwise could easily appear stark, if not balanced.

Why is it so popular? Will it be timeless?

Marylou: Primordia’s colour palette of grey and sandy tones helps to bring together the best of the two styles, industrial and organic, as the natural materials and colours used, complement each other giving your space a timeless yet effortless contemporary look.

What do you think Primordia brings to contemporary industrial design?

Marylou: Primordia is the inspirational centerpiece to this style as it allows you to use cool and warm colours together in a balanced palette.

What’s your advice for bringing the contemporary industrial look into your home?

Marylou: The colours in Primordia allow you to easily mix n match cool and warm colour tones for your joinery doors. You can use grey colours like Polytec oyster grey matt for underbench doors and drawers with timber tones like Polytec Prime Oak WOODMATT for tall storage and overheads. Or reverse the colour scheme, with Oyster Grey MATT for the overhead doors and prime oak woodmatt for tall storage and underbench doors and drawers.

Black, Gunmetal grey or brass/gold metal fittings and accessories all work equally as well within this scheme.

Why are Oyster Grey Matt and Prime Oak Woodmatt the perfect match for Primordia?

Marylou: The neutral soft tones of Polytec Oyster grey matt and rich warmth of Polytec prime oak woodmatt are colours that are both present within Primordia. Using these colours will therefore ensure the perfect match and give you an appealing composed design solution!

ANOTHER TIP

As well as using the two suggested colours as external cabinet colours, you could also consider using the oyster grey as the internal cabinet colour and the prime oak only for all the external doors and drawers. Having a coloured internal instantly makes your joinery feel bespoke and custom made.

What colour palette of furnishings and style of finishes would you recommend for this look in?

Marylou: Tonal versions of the colours used in the benchtop and doors can be extended throughout the space. Oak or grey timber floors, light or mid grey floor and wall tiles, black or subtle metallic highlights in handles or lighting, all work together to create a harmonious colour scheme that allows you to then add greenery through plants or furnishings

Daily care and maintenance of Primordia™ is similar to other Caesarstone surfaces, however the ‘Rough’ low reflective matt surface finish is more susceptible to showing everyday marks and spills meaning more regular cleaning may be required.
