5 New Functions and Modules

5.1 Process Calibration Assistant

The Process Calibration Assistant simplifies the creation of tonal correction curves in Filmgate / Plategate /

Printbox / CTS Module. These curves are used to change the output of the printer to achieve the dot gain of a

house standard, an industry standard like ISO coated v2 or any other ICC profile.

The assistant allows using manual input, measurements, an ICC profile or existing curves as a reference and the

created correction curves get available in the Tonal Value tab.

It is part of the CTS-Module and optionally available as module for Productionserver 7, Filmgate 7 and

Plategate 7.

5.2 Spot Color Gradation

This function improves the accuracy of gradients consisting of a spot color. This is achieved by replacements

for tonal values in addition to the full color. The Color Atlas was also adapted to support this.


5.3 Process Standard Digital

The goals of the PSD achieve considerable advantages: Process control, increased quality and a similar color

reproduction even on completely different print engines and media.

Similar to the offset standard, the PSD stipulates officially recognized rules to objectively evaluate the quality

of digital prints, without neglecting the particular characteristics (diverseness of substrates, colorants, etc.).

Goals of the Process Standard Digital

1. Achieving a reference print quality

2. Output process control to achieve repeatable results

3. Create a workflow that is PDF/X compliant

PSD in Productionserver 7, Proofgate 7 and Photogate 7

• part of the Proofgate Module and Proofgate 7

• The control wedge evaluation was extended:

• „PSD – Media relative evaluation“ and „PSD – side-by-side“ as reports

• „Backing“ as part of the Control Wedge Evaluation

• Lab values of measurements can now be exported

5.4 Preview Feature for Cut Paths

A new preview was added that shows the cutline colored. It can also be opened in a full window that can addi-

tionally illustrate perforations and cut directions. Please note that the job has to be ripped to enable these

previews.


6 Changes

6.1 General

Bugfixes

• The height setting from the printer tab was used for the maximum tile length in horizontal tiling even when

the printer was set to roll paper.

• Printing using a 2bit linearization with a 1bit print mode and vice versa created a wrong output, so that the

software now only shows the fitting linearizations.

• When the interpolation method "Nearest Neighbour" for raster files was used, sometimes thin lines ap-

peared in the output.

• If the Program Units were set to inches, some values in grayed out boxes were not applied correctly.

• Windows 8: Linearizations of imported MIM combinations did not show up.

• For multipage documents the media preview was wrong when the option "Disable Auto-Tiling" was activat-

ed.

• Container creation did not work correctly for multicopy jobs on sheet paper / flatbed printers.

• Copied containers containing multipage files were not split correctly.

• "Delete job completely" after print did not work for jobs that had a print error before.

• Image Interpolation methods "Bicubic" and "Bilinear" were not applied. "Nearest Neighbour" was used

instead.

• The precision for scaling was improved when Anti Aliasing is used to prevent for example a white line at the

border of a job.

• Visual Scaling: The dimensions were mixed up in the window when the file was rotated before.

• Under certain circumstances the process of preview creation was still visualized in the archive window,

even after it was completed and the preview was shown.


• Option "Print cut marks around complete job" was not handled correctly for jobs added to a container.

• If the option "Print cut marks around complete job" was activated, the second tile of a tiling job was not

output.

• The option "Apply Linearization" was removed for Device Color replacements because the linearization has

to be always applied by the color management engine.

• Only the first row of copies was output if a container was configured for multiple copies.

• Some container functions were not available in PS7 Graphic Arts Flex

• The old ColorGATE PPDs are no longer installed, because creating a dynamic PPD is recommended and also

necessary to add the necessary drivers for different operating systems.

Improvements

• Printer Status Monitor now always uses the same name.

• Display of JobTips was improved.

• Improved stability when working with multipage files in hotcontainers that are configured to be deleted

after print.

• Loading large numbers of small jobs was accelerated.

• "Fill last row with copies" now also works for the first row.

• The media preview was optimized to display jobs with many copies much faster than before.

• A "Dynamic" paper size can now be used for file based printers (e.g. PDF FLAT HIGH-RES). It uses the dimen-

sions of the job.

• Printing with Special Colors: "Spread/Choke" now uses pixel values (old settings are automatically convert-

ed).

• New default profiles and rendering intents are now used when they were not changed manually before:

RGB:

Input Profile: Adobe RGB (1998) / Rendering Intent: Perceptual


CMYK:

Input Profile: ColorGATE GamutPlus / Rendering Intent: Blackpoint Compensation

Grey:

Input Profile: Dot Gain 15% / Rendering Intent: Relative Colorimetric

• A new function was added to "Save to MIM" in "Color Management" tab that allows creating a new MIM for

the settings.

6.2 File Processing

APPE (Adobe PDF Print Engine)

A new dialog with more options was added to the Rip tab:

Omit spot color mode:

"notrace": The spot color is removed but the elements under it stay intact.

"knockout": The spot color is replaced with "white" (with paper white)

Global Rasterization:

This option affects how transparencies and drop shadows are processed (flattening).

Ignore all blendspaces

Activating helps with files that contain a lot of elements placed on top of each other.


CM Strategy (RGB/Multicolor only)

2-stage:

This helps for example with:

• Drop shadows based on transparencies in RGB and multicolor modes (in former versions these were

inverted)

• overprints in RGB color mode in certain files

• transparent gradients in certain files

Stroke Adjustment:

On = more accurate line width (similar to JAWS)

Off = wider lines like before 7.20

Other Changes:

• Certain files looked too flat when using APPE.

• The spot color replacement option "Omit" did not work correctly in gradients (NChannel).

• Improved support for special characters in spot color names.

• The version 2.6.4 is now used.

• PS/EPS files can now be processed. In previous versions JAWS was still used for these files.

• pre-separated jobs are now supported for multicolor modes.

• Analyzing and processing of complex PDFs, that use for example brush patterns in Illustrator, was opti-

mized.

• Sometimes parts of the elements that used the spot color were not completely removed when it set to

"Omit".

• In certain PDFs the extracted cutline was corrupted.


Jaws

• PDFs with a high number of elements with spot color "All (registration color)" were processed slower in V7

than in V6.

• General compatibility with PDF files was improved.

• Sometimes parts of the elements that used the spot color were not completely removed when it set to

"Omit".

• Improved quality (16bit) produced color shifts in certain files with large images because elements were

handled differently by the color management.

6.3 Printer Related

Bugfixes

• Acuity LED 1600:

• "Very low" was removed from the vacuum power level options, because the printer doesn't support

this value.

• Color Copier:

• If "Use margins from job" was activated in the printer tab, the hotfolder path got corrupted.

• The new media size of the "PostScript Custom Page Size" was not applied in the "Printer" tab when it

was changed in the Windows printer driver.

• CTS Tiff:

• "Negative output" and "extend to complete imageable area" produced additional empty output files.

• Durst Lambda:

• A white row was output at the right border.

• Durst Omega1:

• White output did not work correctly.


• Epson-Stylus-Pro 7700 Screen, 9700 Screen:

• Feed Adjustment was applied incorrectly.

• Epson Surecolor SC-S506C0 Series:

• Cost Calculation tab showed unsupported inks.

8 and 16 pass print modes did not work correctly.

• Epson SureColor SC-S706X0 Series:

• White Printing does not work in Non-HTM mode.

• White was calculated for Metallic Silver in the Cost Calculation.

• When using 1-pass-layer printmodes without activating one of the special colors, an error was report-

ed when the job is started.

• Gemini:

• The droplet separation was not done correctly for "Density" values below 2.

• HP Scitex FB500:

• "Spot Overprint" was sent as "Spot Underprint" to the printer.

• HP DesignJet Z6200:

• Printing did not work correctly on Korean and Chinese operating systems.

• HP-DesignJet-L28500:

• Thumbnail creation took too long when the printing process was started.

• HP Scitex TJ-series:

• Setting another "Destination Path" in Printer tab did not work properly.

• Mimaki UJF3042:

• The printer monitor did not work properly.

• The print process did not stop correctly after 100% of the data was sent. It stays on "Remote".

• Mimaki UJF3042HG:

• The White channel data was printed out with Varnish or Primer.


• Mimaki JV-400:

• Color->White->Color mode only printed white and then color.

• The "MAPS" option (Microweaving) is no longer available in the user interface and is now used by de-

fault.

• Mimaki JV5-S:

• Maximum print width was 62.975 inch instead the correct 63.5 inch.

• Mutoh ValueJet-1638W:

• The communication with the printer did not work correctly.

• Mutoh ValueJet-1638 / Mutoh ValueJet-1638W:

• Printing did not work with pre-defined print modes.

• Oryx (Revised):

• It is now possible to work with Primer if the 8. channel was changed on the printer from Varnish to

Primer.

• Roland LEC-330:

• Cost Calculation did not work correctly for the White channel.

• The second white channel in double white configurations was not used correctly.

• Roland XR-640:

• Available print modes were updated following Roland's specifications.

• Roland VS-Series:

• Cost Calculation with 2x White print modes did not work properly.

• CMYKLCLM+2x White did not work correctly.

• Combine Layers did not work correctly.

• If a layer was to be printed after a combined layer, the print job was canceled by the printer.

• Roland RE-640 / RA-640:

• The advanced print mode settings were not always applied.

• Scitex GrandJet - XLjet:


• Output to "Destination Folder" configured in the Printer tab did not work properly

• SIIT IP-5520 (ColorPainter W-54S):

• Smart Passes were mixed up and the "Fast" print mode did not work.

• SIIT IP-5620 (ColorPainter W-64S):

• The Special Colors Neon Yellow and Neon Pink were not used correctly.

• SIIT IP-7700 (ColorPainter H2-74S):

• Using the option "Start print on the left" canceled printing for all 2bit printmodes.

• Uvistar Pro8:

• User defined print modes could not be added.

Improvements

• Acuity series:

• Improved default transfer curves for new linearizations were added for Production, FineArt and Ex-

press modes.

• Epson SureColor SC-S706X0 Series:

• The layering dialog offers now 5 different layers.

• One Pass Layering" mode is now supported

• RGB color mode now available for HTM print modes.

• Epson SureColor SC-S506X0 Series / SC-S706X0 Series:

• When a job is sent to the printer, its ink setting is compared to the configuration of the printer, and

a message is displayed when necessary.


• Epson SC-S series:

• The ink set can now be chosen that affects the available print modes.

• Der Druckerstatusmonitor steht nun auch bei USB-Verbindung zur Verfügung.

• Multi-Strike-Printing was removed for user defined media because this setting is then done on the

printer.

• Industrial InkJet

• Options were added to allow the creation of lower case file name extensions and to invert all chan-

nels / light channels

• Mutoh ValueJet-1608HEU:

• New print modes were added: Quality 10, Quality 11 and Quality 12

• Nyala / Impala:

• The color mode CMYKLCLMO+White+Primer was added.

• Roland LEC-330:

• An option for Feed Speed is now available in the print mode tab.

• Roland VS-series:

• Dot type 6 and 7 are now available for the custom print modes.

• HP-DesignJet-Z6200:

• Stability of the connection to the Printer Status Monitor was improved.

• Roland RA-640 / RE-640:

• Droplet sizes for Cost Calculation were added.

• Mimaki UJV-160:

• Double-White support added

• Industrial Inkjet:

• Contone output did not work in RGB oder 4CLR modes.


• Acuity LED 1600:

• The settings for the UV lamps were revised to warn the user when the durability of the lamps is neg-

atively influenced by the entered values.

• Impala, Oryx (Revised), Nyala:

• The print mode settings dialog was redesigned for easier usage.Measurement Devices

• TECHKON SpectroJet:

• The targets could not be read properly under certain circumstances.

• Barbieri SpectroPad:

• improved patch recognition

• Epson Spectroproofer:

• Targets could sometimes not be measured if a rendering intent with White Point simulation was used.

• HP DesignJet L (embedded):

• The internal measurement device is now named "HP DesignJet L (embedded)" in the Linearization

and Profiling Assistant.

• HP DesignJet Z (embedded)

• RGB-Color Control Wedge 1.0 for Quality Assurance Module added.

• Support for the new X-rite i1IO was added to the existing driver.

• The support of the X-Rite i1Pro 2 was improved.


6.6 Print and Cut Module

• SummaSign S Class (D Series, T Series)

• Compatibility with settings files from V6 corrected.

• Zünd Cut Center:

• Further optimizations were done for the output of barcodes.

• If job was cropped or scaled, this was not visible in the preview that was sent in the cut file.

• If the header was added to the job, the cut data and synchronization marks were placed in a wrong way

under certain circumstances.

• Under certain conditions cut frames of jobs were not fully cut at the edges of a container.

• Multipage files with cutlines are now supported.

• Synchronization marks were not placed correctly around container copies.

• Activating "Anti Aliasing" produced wrong cut paths.

• When a container was multiplied, only the first copy was cut but with the number of times the container

was multiplied.


6.7 Linearization and Profiling Assistant

• Under certain conditions the droplet separation could not be accessed when 4 or more different droplet

sizes were used.

• Media Device Synchronization did not work correctly with certain MIM settings that used G7 optimization.

• The Graybalance step was removed from the Linearization Assistant because the linearization itself is able

to achieve a clean output of grey tones.

• The default parameters for Ink Splitting were altered to achieve better results.

• Only targets that cover the transfer channels of the selected color mode (e.g. Light channels), are now

offered for the linearization.

• The option "set the profile in the MIM" on Profile Creation step was removed and is now always applied.

6.8 Inksaver

• Multicolor color modes are now also supported, e.g. CMYKOG.

6.9 G7 Calibration Module

• Additional values are now shown on the evaluation page to follow the guidelines of the G7 certifiCation.

6.10 Color Atlas

• Color Atlas: Color Correction curves were not used when the target was output.

6.11 Cost Calculation Module

• Cost Calculation was not started when the printer queue was paused.


6.12 Screen Print Proof Module

• The JDF file from the Screen printer was not recognized in 7.11.

6.13 Plategate Module

• The Screen workflow was not available if the Filmgate Module was not available too.

6.14 JDF Module

• Notifications for the start of the ripping and printing processes were added.

6.15 Filmgate Module

• Trapping is now deactivated for targets printed out from the linearization assistant.

• When existing MIMs from older versions were used in the Linearization Assistant, sometimes settings from

them were not correctly applied for the targets.

• If info text item "Separation Plane (short)" was used, the info text was corrupted on all separations except

for Cyan.

• Changing the angles was not applied to the output when Super Rosette was used.

• "Negative output -> Extend to complete imageable area" inverted all output channels and not only the K

channel.

• Separations with trailing spaces in their name were not processed.

• The "Print Black Plane Only" function in the hotfolder was improved so that other planes can now also be

selected automatically.

• The function "Auto Size" did not work correctly when the software was set to inches.


6.16 Proofgate Module

• The control wedge evaluation did not work properly for PDF jobs when the option "use embedded profiles"

was activated on the Profiles tab.

• Fogra LFP Control wedge is now available
