15. Competencies – Colorado Shines PDIS is a competency driven system. The specific competencies identified for each training link the
training to the Colorado Shines PDIS professional development plan features and credentialing training requirements. As you complete this
section, be sure to provide information specific to the training that showcases how it supports individual achievement of the selected
competency. A guideline for the number of competencies is to identify one per clock hour.
Using the competencies set for your audience (Early Childhood Educators and Administrators, Trainers, Coaches), identify which
competencies this training aligns to. Use the steps below to help guide selection of competencies. Locate the competency document you
need by visiting http://ecpd.costartstrong.org/ets/pages/?p=competencies.
1. Identify the Core Competency Domain area that aligns to your training content. Remember the goal is to identify the
competencies that your training authentically supports participants to achieve. If you have questions, refer to the Training
Design: Competencies and Learning Objectives module in the Colorado Shines PDIS course catalog for more information on
competency selection.
2. Identify the Category in the Domain area you choose.

3. Identify the competency this training aligns to and enter the competency number and description in the chart below .
4. You can also use the “find” tool in the competency documents to help locate competencies (ctrl F).
Learning Objectives
Once you have identified the competencies your training aligns to, list the learning objectives that support achieving the competency in the next column. For more information on learning objectives, refer to the Training Design: Competencies and Learning Objectives module in the Colorado Shines PDIS course catalog. Learning objectives must be in ABCD format, meaning each objective needs to identify the audience, behavior (active verb – such as define, list, compare, choose, rank, generate), condition (resources used to assist achievement) and degree (how much/measurable). Please see the Training Design Tips sheet located on Colorado Shines PDIS Apply for Training Alignment page for more information.
Activities Please indicate if the activity is pure content delivery or if it is an interactive learning experience. 30% of activity time must be interactive such as pair shares, walk and talks, discussions, etc. Please see the Training Design Tips sheet or consider taking the Training Design course on Colorado Shines PDIS to learn more about interactive activities suitable for adult learners.
Complete the chart on the following page. If more room is needed, please use the space at the end of this application on page 11.
