Judy A. HerringtonColorado Elementary All-State Vivace Choir Conductor
Judith A. H e r r i n g t o n brings more than 35 years of teaching and c o n d u c t i n g experience to her work at Tacoma Youth Chorus and Charles Wright A c a d e m y in Tacoma, Wash ington, where she received the Inspi rat ional Faculty Award and the Murray
Foundation Chair for Teaching Excellence. A graduate of the University of Oregon, Ms. Herrington earned her Master of Education degree from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon. She has furthered her conducting studies through master classes with Rodney Eichenberger and Henry Leck. She has served on the Washington American Choral Directors Association Board as R&S Chair for Children’s Choirs, President and Past-President of the Board and is the 2011 recipient of its Leadership and Service Award. She is an inaugural member of the School of Arts and Communication Advisory Board at Pacific Lutheran University.
Judith Herrington is the Founder and Artistic Director of the highly acclaimed Tacoma Youth Chorus, a choral education program of seven select choirs, grades 1 through 12, serving more than 240 young people in the south Puget Sound region of Washington since 1991. The chorus is recognized throughout the Northwest-Puget Sound area for their performance of outstanding music literature, superb musicianship and collaborations with professional performing organizations. Under Ms. Herrington’s direction, the Chorus has performed for National Orff-Schulwerk Conventions, Northwest MENC convention and the Northwest ACDA conventions (1998, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014). The Chorus has performed internationally as well, with cathedral tours in France, Eastern Europe and in Britain, Wales and Ireland.
Ms. Herrington is highly regarded as a guest conductor, workshop and choral clinician. Most recently, Ms. Herrington has conducted all-state and regional honor choirs and festivals in Idaho, Texas, Oregon, Washington, California, Hawaii, Montana, Wyoming, Pennsylvania, Alaska, Tennessee and Tokyo. She served as visiting faculty for graduate coursework at VanderCook College of Music. A noted composer and arranger, she has published choral compositions, arrangements and co-authored choral teaching texts through Pavane Publishing, Hal Leonard Publishing, and Colla Voce Publishing. She also edits a choral series for Pavane Publishing.
As a young musician in the greater Cincinnati area, Wes Sparkes participated in numerous ensembles and competitions as a pianist and trumpeter. He was a semi-finalist in both the 2003 World Piano Competition and the 2006 Oberlin International Piano Competition, in addition to winning the 2005 OMTA Senior Piano Division state competition. He graduated from University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music in 2010 with a Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance. Mr. Sparkes attended Colorado College for his Master of Arts in Teaching. He is the choir director at Eagleview Middle School in Colorado Springs. His program at Eagleview serves over 250 singers who participate in semester, yearlong, and auditioned choirs.

Colorado Elementary All-State Presto Choir Conductor
An internationally recognized choral director, Henry Leck is a professor emeritus and recently retired director of choral activities at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. He is currently the Founder and Artistic Director of the Indianapolis Children’s Choir which is in its 29th season. The touring choirs of the Indianapolis Children’s Choir have performed regularly for national ACDA, MENC, OAKE and AOSA Conferences. Mr. Leck recently arranged and conducted the national anthem for Kelly Clarkson and the Indianapolis Children’s Choir at the Super Bowl XLVI.
Mr. Leck has conducted Mixed, Men’s, Women’s, Junior High and Children’s All-State choirs and festival choirs in nearly every state. He is a frequent conductor of regional and national honor choirs, including the ACDA Southern, Southwest, North Central, Central, Western and Northwest Honors Choirs. For twenty-one years, he has conducted the National Youth Choral Festival in Carnegie Hall. Mr. Leck has conducted many international festivals including the Musica Mundi Tuscany Children’s Choir Festival in Italy, the Central European International Children’s Choral Festival, the International Children’s Choir Festival in Beijing, China and the Vienna Children’s & Boys Choir Festival with the Vienna Sangerknaben. He recently conducted
the Tokyo International High School Honor Choir in Japan. For more than twenty years he has conducted a festival with David Flood at Canterbury Cathedral. Mr. Leck has just been named an Honorary Associate Professor of the Hong Kong Institute of Teacher Education. He also was recently selected as the U.S. Jurist for the 1st Xinghai Prize International Choir Championships and as an international lecturer for the International Symposium on children and youth choral music in Guangzhou, China. In the summer of 2014, he was a jurist at the World Choir Games in Riga, Latvia.
He has recently written a textbook titled, Creating Artistry through Choral Excellence. Mr. Leck received his training from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point, the University of Colorado and Indiana University.
Jolene EdwardsAccompanist
Jolene Edwards is honored to accompany the 2015 Elementary All State Choir. During her fourteen years working with Widefield School District 3 Music, Jolene has been the accompanist for Watson Junior High, Widefield High School and is currently the Administrative Assistant to the WSD3 District Music Coordinator. Mrs. Edwards has performed with four District 3 CMEA choirs, provided accompaniment for numerous musicals, and continues to accompany district ensembles as well as other district events and festivals as needed. She served as the CEASC Vivace Choir accompanist for 2014. In addition, she has worked with area church choirs and soloists for many years and enjoys all opportunities to accompany.
Mrs. Edwards has been a private piano instructor for twenty years. Primarily self-taught, Jolene loves to make piano lessons available to any student that has a desire to learn. She has had the privilege to teach many children and adults in the Widefield/Security area and is proud to have been part of their musical experiences.
